Like MacDonald, he goes from a good, top pairing defenseman to a 6th or 7th guy at best.

I'm hopeful that Myers will have a bounce back season. He's very grateful to TNSE for how they supported him through his baby's health care issues. He should bring an entirely new perspective to the rink.

The only problem is, he didn't just have one bad season. He's been struggling for a few years now. Pretty much ever since coming to Winnipeg.

He was always over rated just easier to hide in Buffalo then other places wink. MacDonald from what read during time Islanders were supposed to trade him to Kings... Somebody was talking about flaws in his game, think he said he was real bad in the neutral zone... Some other things, that he was only good at blocking shots, ice he played on for Islanders was probably so bad it made it easier for the type of game he played too smile. Also he was making about 500K, then went up about 10 times that which raises expectations while decreasing reason to perform after being paid finally smile.

yeah, there are a bunch of guys who you sign for huge contracts and then soon stop playing at that level, like Myers and MacDonald.

Yeah though Dustin Brown was never good he always sucked haha smile... He did have a nice run in the 2012 cup though... Kopitar is another guy that got a big contract then responds by scoring 12 goals smile. Its like Starship Troopers when have to walk washout lane or whatever wink...

Brown was a good player for a while. Kopitar had one bad year, but it's not all about points.

Brown was always a dirty player who took cheap shots every chance he could... Problem for him is what was a big Brown hit became a 5 game suspension as league changed rules... He surely was never worth 6M, he should have a cap hit of 2.75M at most... Kopitar works out about as much as Bernie Nichols did, he has no regiment compared to the elite players or those paid in the 10-10.5M range who play forward... His knees are a bit gimpy having some injury issues at times too... Figure he will be bought out the 4th or 6th year, having the no trade clause or whatever is really crippling giving him no reason to try or put a lick of effort in... Most his points came in garbage time when team was already eliminated. He was a -3 in a game they needed to win so even his defense play was real lacking far from days he was Selke nominee smile.

Myers didn't give up when he got his contract he's simply had some really unfortunate things happen to him and his family. He has been hurt regularly and might have a chronic condition involving the nerve endings in his feet making it difficult to play, his newborn son was very sick for a long time and nearly died earlier this year, and there were rumours about him having a painkiller addiction after his multiple surgeries last year which ended in a stint in rehab. All the while he hasn't been playing and it's not a MacDonald-esque collapse it's simply a really unfortunate run of luck.

he's a big guy and had some OK years in buffalo. but when you lose foot speed through injuries or age or just can't keep up to the speed of the game now, you are no longer a top 4 dman. we think a young guy is going to progress when they mature, but for whatever reason, sometimes they get worse.

Well i think injuries have been a big reason he hasn't played as good. I mean, he has to be okay since he won the Calder trophy, but that year didn't have any super top rookies. And ever since then he hasn't done as much. Maybe he just needs out of Winnipeg.

He just hasn't played, the 11 games he played this year he was fantastic. It's like saying Stamkos isn't playing well right now, you can't say these guys aren't playing well when they aren't playing lol makes no sense.

yep, fair enough, but in those 11 games i mean he hasn't played as good. Ever since that Calder Trophy he hasn't done that much. I mean, even 3 years ago he was a top pairing D but now he's more like a 4/5 guy or even a 6/7.
