Youngest team in the NHL three years in a row

Created by: gretzkyghosts
Team: 2024-25 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 6, 2023
Published: Oct. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It could be difficult to keep everyone next year 2025-'26.
Okposo, Jost, Girgensons, Olofsson, Erik Johnson, Comrie have all been dropped from this year’s roster.
They have been replaced by players with ELC's Kulich, Ostlund, Rousak, Ryan Johnson, Savoie.
Greenway, Levi, Quinn, Peterka and Johnson are in their final contract year in which they will earn approximately $9,550,000 in 2024-'25 and will be seeking decent raises the following year.
If they all perform as well as expected, they should expect to receive contracts similar to Samuelsson or about $4,500,000 each, or $22,500,000 total.
These new salaries will increase the total cap by $13,000,000 more than the project cap space of this year, even with Power and Dahlin receiving contracts less than what most Sabre ACGM's and other pundits predict.
As well as he played last year, and demonstrated that he is a solid team player who likes to play for Buffalo, Skinner may be a casualty due to his age and cap hit and will be traded or bought out of his final contract year.
Alternatively, Casey and Jokiharju are traded to make cap space and are replaced by other players (Wahlberg/Strbek) on their ELC.

DAHLIN'S TERM WAS REDUCED FROM 8 YEARS TO 5 YEARS.

It's a good team (already) with a promising future. If Levi turns out to be the real deal, this is a contender in the 2025 playoffs.

But I thought the sabres had 45 mil in cap space and had the money to sign 30+ year old free agents to bloated deals.

Dahlin will not sign for 8 years. He wants a 3-4 year deal prob around 10.5

I think they have very good shot at 2024 playoffs. They weren’t that far of wild card last year. And all their competitors are aging or banged up (BOS, FLA…NYI, PIT for possible wild card). Will be fun to watch.

Seems like the obvious move to me would be for the Sabres to try and swing a trade for a young top 4 RHD sending one of those younger forwards the other way.
Could get a very interesting D back for one of Kulich, Rosén, Peterka and Östlund.

Zero chance they sign him to a deal that pays him 10+ mil and walks him to FA.

If they're paying double digits its cause there's term. Just cause Peters says he heard it doesnt mean its true

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this post.
Typically a post without trades receives little attention.
Showing that the cap will be tight EVEN with Dahlin and Power accepting contracts well below reported figures was the primary purpose of the post

Hopefully it was an aberration or that the Penguins are a Stanley Cup team.

Great conversations, love to exchange ideas.
Granato always sees the silver lining and not the dark clouds.
I hope Stillman, Clague and Biro will all clear waivers
Early evening update, they all cleared waivers, good news for Rochester better news for Buffalo.
It was a shock to see Bryson was kept over Stillman.
Hopefully Jacob and bounce back.
Was Metsa suppose to play at least one preseason game?

Looks like 8x11m is the contract for Dahlin. Not bad, all things considered, i will take that.
