I could maybe see something like this with Beauvillier instead of Garland. I don't think there's any way VAN wants to retain on Garland for 3 years.

Even then, the Canucks need to be looking at defensive upgrades. So if they're giving up a 2nd rounder to anyone I'd hope it would be for a Dman.

Laffy is basically Garland but with a bigger price tag. 2nd round pick isn't helping with NYR cup pursuit. Don't see the point really.

Feels like if it's Beauvillier, that 2nd needs to become a 1st (could be in 2025 or even 2026)

Except Garland can play on the right side, whereas Laffy turns into a pumpkin when he tries to play on the right side. (Prove me wrong, Laffy! Prove me wrong!)

If Laf isn’t putting it together, then why would Vancouver trade a good 2nd line winger 50% retained plus a 2nd round pick for him?

I’d be shocked if Canucks retain on his salary with 3 years left

Why would the Canucks trade a 2nd and retain for a player who, despite everything NYR has done to try to get him going, seemingly hasn't lived up to expectations and didn't show well in camp this year...?

Cancuks decline. They won't retain 50% on Garland unless it's an absurd offer they can't decline. The whole point of moving Garland is to clear cap space and clear out the logjam of wingers, retaining 50% and taking back Lafreniere doesn't clear cap space and doesn't ease the logjam of wingers.

Good way for Drury to lose his job.

Garland was already offered around with no takers, even at 3x 2.5m he'd be a healthy scratch by year 2. Yes Laf sucks but he has value, we could get a good kid back. Easy pass
