Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 13, 2023
Published: Oct. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Boqvist, Adam
Additional Details:
MTL takes a chance on Boqvist who cant seem to stay healthy. Would be a great addition for the PP, I based the price on the Lundkvist trade last year.
CBJ
  1. Kidney, Riley
  2. Norlinder, Mattias
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
CBJ gets depth at LD, a future middle 6 guy and a 2nd for a player that seems behind Severson, Peeke and Jiricek on the right side (and Werenski if he returns)
2.
MTL
  1. Kubalik, Dominik
Additional Details:
I like Kubalik and we have the cap space available to get him at a discount. Dont like helping a division rival, but its worth it at this price.
OTT
  1. 2025 4th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Time isnt on Ottawa's side and they'll need to create some cap space at some point. Kubalik is the only way they get something and don't have to pay a team to take on one of their bad contracts (ex Joseph).
3.
DAL
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Based on past deadline deals, Monahan will go for a late 1st/early 2nd pick if he can stay healthy until deadline. Dallas has a real shot at the cup and a vet like Monahan who can play anywhere in the line up would be a big addition. His cap hit would be really low with 20 games left in the season. Bourque will have a hard time cracking the Stars line up especially with Stankoven ahead of him in the pipeline. Its a hefty price, but I think it fits the Stars timeline. If Dallas isnt interested, Monahan can be traded to other contenders like Colorado or Toronto for a 1st.
4.
MTL
  1. 2025 6th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Habs running 3 goalies highly implies that Primeau wouldnt have cleared waivers. Better a late pick than nothing.
COL
  1. Primeau, Cayden
Additional Details:
Francouz out and Avs need a goalie. Cheap price to pay.
5.
MTL
  1. Greenway, Jordan
  2. Leinonen, Topias [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Swapping Greenway for Dvorak is a W imo, especially with the retained salary on Dvorak. Sabres already have Levi so Leinonen can be a nice trade chip. I wouldnt be surprised if Ylonen does well under Granato.
BUF
  1. Dvorak, Christian ($1,450,000 retained)
  2. Ylönen, Jesse
Additional Details:
Habs dont have much goalies in the pipeline appart from Fowler who I like a lot, but isnt a guarentee to pan out at all. I like Ylonen but he doesnt have much place in the system.

Leinonen isnt that good of a prospect you trippin. Goalie market is rough as well.

Greenway is trash so idk why he wouldnt be traded. Just cause you overpaid doesnt mean hes still worth that.

Some sabres fan just proposed Ylonen for Leinon+Okposo, guess Im not that far off buddy

You’re WAY far off- there’s ZERO CHANCE

1- if he’s not a good goalie prospect, u won’t mind not getting him
2- i don’t particularly like Greenway, but our coach LOVES him- he’s NOT getting traded

Sorry “buddy”
But it’s not happening

Dvorak is washed but Greenway is a useful bottom 6. Ok bud. Just cause they overpaid for him doesnt mean hes still worth a 2nd. Sabres need a C who can take draws and kill penalties while having an offensive touch. Just because he was drafted in the 2nd round doesnt mean Leinonen is a great prospect, hes a project and Sabres window is coming soon. I can use the same logic and say Ylonen is very valuable because he was drafted 35th overall (almost ppg in the AHL last year). Savoie, Kulich, Ohgren arent ready for the NHL, Ylonen is and has great tools.

Yall are clueless

Lol, sure…. EVERYONE else is wrong,
and it’s YOU who are right 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ylönen is 24 and isn’t an NHL regular but yeah, he’s the same as Kulich and Savoie 😂
And I’m the one who’s clueless.

Didnt say he was the same. Ylonen isnt even the main part of the trade its Dvorak as Buffalo needs a C that can take draws and kill penalties, but focus on chel-like comparisons if you want. Yes its unserious and clueless to act like you can improve your team without giving anything. If Leinonen doesnt pan out the Habs would have received nothing in this scenario. I stand by my point the trade would fit both teams needs.

1-Ever heard of taking a chance on a prospect that got drafted too high?
2-Your coach needs to improve his PK and Greenway doesnt do that. I dont even care about Greenway but Buffalo needs to give back a salary as I dont think theyd want to add 3M$ on their cap when a plug like Greenway is already wasting that

Writing in CAP LOCK doesnt replace having actual ARGUMENTS " 🤣🤣 "

Buf once brought in a good face off and PK specialist in Steve Ott. He had negative impact because he sucked nearly everywhere else. Dvorak is the same (and not quite as good at face offs or the PK as Ott). Greenway > Dvorak and Lienonen has more potential than Ylonen. I can’t spell this any clearer. I understand you have to give to get, and I’m not pretending Greenway nor Lienonen are so special they can’t be moved. But like my original post said, there’s nothing coming back that is of interest

I don’t waste my time “arguing” with fools on this site who think they know more about the Sabres than me

Well Ott was 55.5% for his career on the dot. CD is 52%. I guess I know which number is bigger. And yeah a 19 year old has more potential than a 24 year old when they 24 year old cant hold down a roster spot. Later my guy

Kubalik trade makes sense for both teams. Sens give up Kubalik at a discount as the price to pay for getting into these cap troubles, and Montreal gets a player who either meshes well with the team and is some nice secondary scoring, or they can retain half on and flip at the deadline

Or even not retain - he's only on $2.5M, there's probably a market even without retention at the deadline. Canadiens only have 1 retention slot left, might want to use it for a bigger benefit at the deadline this year.
