I don't want this too happen, just curious how other fans feel about potentially moving Chabot and acquiring a good RD and opening cap space for a DEEP forward roster. Chabot's NTC starts next year and base salary of 10m.

Pinto will want $2.95mil/yr+ like Mathieu Joseph got and won’t sign for less than what Newhook just received from MTL

Not many teams would want Chabot at that term, maybe PHI? Hronek & whatever his next term is > Chabot @8m. At least remove the 1st

I wouldn’t do this on either side. I get the point of the trade as you get a good right shot d-man and clear some space for Pinto, but on the other hand you lose Chabot. Sure you are still deep down the left side but losing Chabot would just become a big blow. As for Vancouver we would end up trading away the one Right shot d-man that we can’t lose and would probably become a bad move fast. Plus we still have cap space that needs to be cleared. Definitely is a crazy idea but I personally think there has to be more to this trade to really get things going.

Hronek isn’t the type of Dman they need if they move Chabot

Honestly, I don’t dislike this deal for Ottawa! As it stands, they have 3 first-pairing LHDs. However, Vancouver probably can’t and shouldn’t make this deal financially work.

Hronek played good with Olli Määttä last season but overall was awful every year before that.

Canucks traded for Hronek because they had a huge need at RHD. They aren’t moving him after 6 games

They need an Ekholm, Adam Larson, shutdown type dman.

I'd be willing to explore the idea in concept, but there are so few RHD who fit that profile and actually make sense in a Chabot Deal. Writing off all the guys who are better/more expensive/too old/not good enough, there's like a handful of names you can consider. Basically like Weegar, Severson, Pulock, Cernak, Marino and Carlo. Idk if there's really a deal with any of those guys that makes sense.

(To be clear I'm not really suggesting any of these as straight 1 for 1, but rather deals built around those as the core pieces).

Too bad a lot of teams that are trying to get over the hump are looking for that, ie Edmonton haha.

No way Vancouver would do this. The scope of games Hronek has played in Van is small but he's already got chemistry with Hughes. Besides, Chabot isn't much of an upgrade to warrant a first. Van just got rid of a huge LHD contract, no chance they take on another. Any deal Hronek signs next will be better financially in Van than Chabot's big $.

Not many teams could offer a player like Chabot to get that though.

I love how both players you named used to play or currently play for Edmonton but Edmonton somehow still has an issue at Rd lmao

UGGHHH I KNOW. I salivate over an Ekholm-Larsson pairing.
Stuff like this always has a trickle down effect. If Larsson re-signed with us, who knows if we ever go after Ekholm... :/

This makes ZERO sense from the Canucks perspective. Where are they week on the right side of their D. So trade their best RHD for another LHD? Makes no sense at all.......................

You've posted this in a couple threads. Do you actually have a source for this?

The insiders, i.e. the guys that talk to the agents, said his camp was looking for 2.5 for 2 years. I've yet to see a source say 2.95+

Common Sense and Comparables. Pinto just came off a 20 Goal Rookie Season, why would he take less than market value when everyone around him is getting paid and Right Shot Centres are hard to come by:

“ Why should Pinto accept less than his NHL worth as a player right now, which is at least Mathieu Joseph's money ($2.95 million), just because the Sens are loaded at centre and up against the cap? ”

Source: https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/ottawa-senators/features/shane-pinto-wants-to-discuss-his-market-value-not-ottawas-cap-issues-or-centre-ice-depth

Everything is speculation, but I wouldn’t accept anything less than $2.95 if I were Pinto or his agent

You and your experts are going off of terrible comparables: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/scouts-analysis-shane-pintos-potential-and-how-ottawa-can-make-it-work/sn-amp/

Use Kirby Dach, Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Newhook, Matias Maccelli and Martin Necas THOSE are fair comparables

There's speculation, and there's relaying information given by the player's agent. Frankly, I trust the sources of Friedman or Dreger over speculation from THN.

Here's the thing. Let's assume he wants more. Pinto can demand whatever he wants. The problem is, the team is not obligated to give him that. He has no leverage. If he wants to play in the NHL, the Senators control where and for how much. If he doesn't like it, he can sit out the year, or go play in Europe. He can demand a trade and Ottawa has absolutely no obligation to grant that request. This is a risk he took when he burnt a year of his contract when he signed at the end of his NCAA season. Hit RFA sooner, but you might have less leverage depending on how many games you play.

Joseph got the contract he did because he had leverage and it was for 4 years. Dach had leverage. Pinto does not.

Which is why, by all reports from people who have contact with his agent/camp say he's seeking a deal in the neighborhood of 2x2.5, which, when it will expire, will put him in a RFA position with leverage.

lets not pretend he has no leverage thought. the teams wants hin to play and not ruin their relation with the player. otherwise they would sign him for league minimum if there was 0 leverage.

Sure. Withholding of services is always an option, hence why I said if he wants to play. If he's perfectly fine sitting out until he gets what he wants, then he has leverage. But Norris will return at some point and Greig is playing well with Joseph and Tarasenko, so that play loses impact until there's an injury or their play regresses.

As for ruining relations, they always have the out of firing Dorion and rightfully blaming him for not planning accordingly.

And with the way Joseph has been playing since first day of training camp, you're wasting him on the 4th line.
