Caps have $4,656,560 in cap space with Burakovsky and Grubauer both in need of contracts, my guess is they sign Burakovsky and Grubauer is left to find a new home. Next season they'll have most notably: Carlson and Tom Wilson to resign, so Washington has their work cut out for them.

Quite frankly, I think Kuznetsov is the best forward on the Caps so I don't disagree he deserves the contract...

But the Caps now have only $4 mill in space with 9F, 5D, and 1G

How are they gonna sign 3 forwards, a defensemen, and a goalie for 4 mill?

Huge overpayment, at least 1.2 million extra AAV. And for 8 years? This is the money that Nick Backstrom should have been making. This team is quickly getting worse.

I honestly wonder if they have a trade for Ovechkin lined up.

A trade for a player with an AAV of $9,538,462 and an age of 31? Doubt it, but I never saw Marleau with a 3 year 6.25 million dollar contract coming either, so I don't know.

RIP Marcus Johanssen. I still don't think that solves the caps issue tho. Still have to resign Burakovsky, Grubauer, and then find another defensemen and 3 more forwards JUST to hit a 20 man roster, and only $9 mill to work with

Ewe, These are some John Ferguson Jr moves up in this betch. How do you only get a 2nd and a 3rd for Johansson??! And not even the devils picks?! For the record, Backstrom is the best forward the caps have. Not even close. He the most complete game and can rack up the points.
I agree this does have the feel that something else is going to happen though

With Copley in the minors, I suspect we're still waiting for the shoe to drop for a Grubauer trade, if not a bigger one. Buffalo seems like a natural fit.

Banking awfully hard on Copley. Better pray Holtby doesn't get injured.

Maybe they will make a movie called Bowling for a Lockout about all these insane contracts then act surprised smile. I thought JOhansen was crazy to want like 8M, he might end up getting it at this rate. I wonder if Shattenkirk is kicking himself for not getting at least 7M or so now wink. Its funny they couldn't even get him to take 62M, they had to add the extra 400K smile. If anything I thought this guy was taking step back not forward so maybe I'm confusing with another russian or whatever wink.
