I do agree with you that Ottawa looks set for the playoffs hence I just assumed they would want to make some cap space, sign Pinto…figured they would like Stanley and his size in what looks like a tough division…and some one needs to clear the Leafs from the net area (that’s a joke of course)
Also they get a 3rd back and what’s a 20-30th pick vs a 50-60 pick for all that?
If you take ego out of the trade doesn’t this set Ottawa up well? If not what’s your counter proposal?
Sorry for the late reply, was mad busy last week
Ok so we didn't know about the real Pinto situation so all the "
Ottawa is DESPERATE to make some cap space" speculation ended up wrong but nobody really knew so not going to hold it against you.
But even if they were, they would NEVER do anything close to that.
Even if he is big, Stanley is just not good enough and is not that physical.
Also, not going to hold it against you that Joseph would have that type of season. I was one of the very few who saw it coming and repeated it all summer. I took a lot of heat on this forum for that. He now has 7 pts in 8 games, is +5 and has been key as usual defensively and on the PK. I repeated all the way since Tarasenko was signed that the guy to trade was Kubalik, not Joseph
So not only I wouldn't trade Joseph for a 2nd round pick, even if you replace him with Kubalik, it never made any sense to move a 1st round pick to clear cap space. Sens don't have a Zaitsev/Murray contract anymore as they already paid to move them, that huge ransom ask was just a stupid CF narrative all the way and time proved it. Briere crazy asks (a 1st to take Joseph, a 1st+ to trade Laughton lol is just a newbie GM trying to bend other GMs over, he's not scared to try)
So now, Joseph has re-established positive value, Sens are not looking to clear cap space anymore (maybe in January but we'll see) and Stanley is not a need. I would make a trade for a good physical RHD, but not Stanley who is also a LHD (not a need at all)
Also, a 3rd round pick has minimal value compared to a 1st round pick, no matter where these picks end in the round. My counter proposal would have been (before the Pinto suspension) Kubalik for any pick and that's it.
Not sure what you mean by "ego" lol, it was just a terrible trade for Ottawa, even worse than the many blunders Dorion has made.
