Interesting preface for a team on here. I do think the Leafs and Hurricanes will make a deal. Not exactly sure how big or little the deal will be. Toronto is top left-handed heavy on defense and have too many wingers in need of NHL roster spots. So, here is my proposal. The Leafs trade Jake Gardiner, Nikita Soshnikov, Kasperi Kapanen, Eric Fehr and a 2nd round draft pick in 2018 (SJS) in exchange for Brett Pesce and Roland McKeown.

I am trying to think as realistically as possible, I would say the Leafs are going to keep their top-9 intact. The Hurricanes have a coach, even a GM, that doesn't care about using defensemen on their off wing. Our coach is crazy is about it. That's why I believe this deal works for both teams. It's possible it could be a bigger deal, but our coach is all about team chemistry, especially building on last season, which is why I didn't want to alter the top-9.

A bigger deal could be something like Jake Gardiner, Tyler Bozak, James Van Riemsdyk, Kasperi Kapanen, Eric Fehr and Nikita Soshnikov (on the basis that both Bozak and JVR signed extensions upon this deal taking place), for Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner, Brett Pesce and Roland McKeown. The deal would have to be something like this in order to make the money work. I don't think either team would be prepared to do something as big and team-altering as this.

Montreal should have a huge interest in Hanifin. How about a deal like Galchenyuk (top 3) + Plekanec (for 3rd line C) + Juulsen (top RD prospect) for Hanifin + Teravainen + Roy or Gauthier?
Can swap Juulsen with whatever prospect Carolina might need, or high pick (1st or 2nd). Also, Davidson or Byron could be included...
