Core shake up - Significant Retool

Created by: brady_t12
Team: 2023-24 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2023
Published: Oct. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After this season, Wennberg, Edmundson, NAK, and Schultz walk. Let the young players come up and take roster spots in 24-25, deal with the growing pains, and then in 25-26, make one last push for the cup with ovechkin in a supporting role. By the time 26-27 and 27-28 roll around, the caps will be one of the best young teams with all the draft capital they have. They can make the picks or trade them for young NHL ready guys like they did with Sandin.

This isn’t happening tho cause the team has already committed to being just good enough to help Ovi get the record delaying any of this by another 3-4 years.

Also even if you get all this draft capital (most of which is too much for what ur trading), ur probably not even top 3 in ur own division in young talent let alone in the league. The Flyers, CBJ, and Devils will all have way more and better young talent by then.

I think Dowd and Pacioretty returns could be less but I think for the most part the draft capital coming back is realistic. But agreed that the metro has so much young talent. And it’ll be hard to compete. Gonna need some serious contributions from the younger players on the roster and also need all of our draft picks to hit to compete.

Appreciated lol I try to be realistic.

If Pacioretty plays well, he could be worth a second given his low cap hit. Dowd I was thinking a second for if there’s a couple teams in on him, plus he’s got an extra year of term at a good cap hit for a 4C. But at the end of the day, he’s just a good 4C who could play 3C in a pinch, so how valuable is that position in trade really?
