I totally don't understand the MacKinnon and Eckblad trades. Since you aren't sending any money back, wouldn't it make a lot more sense to sign UFAs and keep your draft picks. MacKinnon has not shown he is a 6.1m player and Eckblad has slipped due to injury. Save your money (13.4m) to spend elsewhere and save your picks.

They are both future team Canada all starts it builds an core around Horvat and others yes Ekbukd has injury issues but that's what it would take to trade for him.

Even Jim Benning could find a way to spend 7.5m (Ekblad) wisely and keep all those picks. And really what has McKinnon done to help a bottom feeding like the Avs. Not much. And he comes to another bottom feeder.
The Canucks would continue to miss the playoffs and all those top picks would be gone too.

Eriksson just usually takes time to get adjusted to whoever he's playing for
