I am reading this everywhere but it could be fake news, as WSH would never be stupid enough to do this.

They don't have an option. Back themselves into a corner with the Cap.

If they were smart, they would have let Oshie walk.

The salary cap effectively redistributing talent. New Jersey may actually have a pretty nice set of forwards now.

Washington trades two 2nds for Eller (Eller!) yet let's Mjo go for a 2nd and a 3rd...what's wrong with this picture

Damn... that's all they got? I knew they needed to dump salary, but this is ridiculous.

Yepp... And they aren't done yet. Still don't have the cap to resign Bura/Grubauer and field a full roster.

you're right, it's like trading Johansson and a 2nd for Eller and a 3rd. Yeah, a top line player + for a 4th liner.

Devils need forwards so they might as well get this guy who is a lot better than probably anybody they could sign left on the market. There was a time thought this guy had a bit more upside... Maybe being on a new team without any pressure to win a Cup will help him get his game going again. Devils had a few players who were down/out that did well there... Look how great Clarkson did on NJ compared to when he left wink.

WSH now sits with $9,239,893 in cap space, likely to be used on Burakovsky and Grubauer.

Ray Shero is smart guy and his building plan is long-term thing, we have to be patient. (we-fans Devils).
Johansson is great fit for our roster, top6 LW/C for 2nd and 3rd round picks is huge steal.

We need top6 RW a top4 D, yet and I think Shero will be active and will make another move.

You got Mirco Mueller or so from Sharks on a decent deal before Expansion Draft who ended up protecting... He could pan out to be a Top 4 D, Sharks had high hopes for him being another Vlasic or some sorta impact player there. I thought it was a bit odd they bought out Smith Pelly, wasn't surprised they bought out Cammy smile...

How are there even options for fair deal and for washington capitals? this one doesn't need a poll.

We could all be wrong the herd is rarely right so will know eventually smile. ONce enough people vote for it its harder for a person to go against the grain smile. I seen many trades everybody thought was good at the time not pan out for the team expected wink.

My issue with this trade (coming from a die hard Caps fan) is that Brian Maclellan saw MOJO as being more expendable than Brooks Orpik. Any contract in the NHL is tradable. Dave Bolland, who is $5 million in dead weight for a long time, got traded with a sweetner. We could've offered a sweetner. We have a ton of good defense prospects, plus Vitek Vanecek (good goalie prospect who's expendable because of Samsonov). That should've been enough to move two years of Orpik who can still contribute. If leadership is the issue, Brian Campbell is still sitting as a UFA. We can save the MOJO money there.

A team like New Jersey would also gladly take Orpik with the sweetener attached. This is a move that's gonna hurt them in the short and long run. They lose a top 6 forward who can help them win now and in the future if they're still able to, and moving Orpik woulda let someone else take his place. That person would probably be better than the pylon, so heck yea it's worth giving up a quality prospect to get rid of Orpik. Quite a shame GMBM didn't do so...pretty desperate move

Keep in mind that Johansson's career shooting percentage is 13.8% compared to Eller's 10%. While that doesn't necessarily mean that Johansson is a better player than Eller, it does mean that he is going to score more goals pretty much every year given equal situations. Further, Eller has been played in fewer minutes and marginally weaker competition. Finally, Johanssen, if nothing else, has a much better scoring reputation than Eller, so he should have garnered a better return just from that.

While the deal is closer than most people (including myself) thought at first, it's still too little for a solid middle-six player.
