With Beck and Kidney needing NHL spots next season, i dont see a reason to trade for a 24 year old who isnt elite

Well that depends if Beck and/or Kidney are ready next year. Habs certainly don't need to rush them.... not to mention there is competition for spots all over this line up.

So, let's assume Hughes has interest in Frost..... who I would suggest would be a nominal upgrade on Dvorak offensively on the 3rd line.

Given where Philly is at, and looking at that roster, my thinking would be someone of comparable age of the blueline. I would suggest organizationally that would be their biggest need at the moment - and as luck would have it, the Habs have a few of those.

Something around Frost for Barron as a framework.

upgrading the 3rd line does nothing but get the Habs a worse draft pick. If Beck and Kidney arent reedy then you sign some vet on a 1 year deal

Frost isnt good enough to warrant a rebuilding team to spend assets on him. Only a contender would do such a thing

I think that sort of value makes sense unfortunately given the Habs current injury situation, we are very thin at RD for the next 2 months unless Mailloux shows he can be called up and not only excel but stick for the remainder of the year

I said assume lol.

Frankly I agree with you. But, I do question if Beck or Kidney are ready.

Well, this would be about long term.

However, not sure Frost is a guy Inwould target.

Good player yes. But unless you are not sold on Beck or Kidney it is a move that doesn't male a lot of sense.

Habs have so many in Laval that will push for time next season - Ferrell, Heineman, Beck, Kidney..... Frost would create a logjam imo.

I think Beck is but I am not sure Kidney would make this team with Beck, Dach and Suzuki all slated in as top 9 C's for the next few years and also having a fair shot at 3 top 5 picks in the next 2 drafts (assuming Montreal and Calgary aren't playoff teams). A move for Frost is more to protect against further injuries given Monahan and Gally's recent history. Also if last year was the turning point of his career he would be another asset to trade for picks or since he is young enough a player we might consider keeping

Playing Devil's Advocate, I would suggest packaging up some of that talent to get a 2C males more sense. Newhook - young 2C - Dach..... this gives you centre depth out the Ying Yang, stacks a 2nd line long term and opens up spots in the bottom 6 for those that remain.

Focusing on the bottom 6 is something I wouldn't do at this stage of the rebuild. Caufield and Suzuki's contracts are so good the Habs are set up to do this.

I would want a 1st for Frost but the reality is we should be taking any deal that offers a 2nd and decent prospect because his value is definitely falling the longer Torts sits him

Would be a challenge lol.

The fit would be a team looking to diversify its offense/depth or a change if scenery deal (risky).

Only player that comes to mind of the top of my head is Chytil, and I would have to think the Rangers are saying no everyday of the week. But it would be that kind of player to which I speak.

Subbanator, jpsnow13, Sevenleg, SMH and you (probably missing a couple more) are the only Habs fans on this site with hockey knowledge...
I was SMH until I read your comment and I said out loud : Thank God
