Yea I think its fair

WSH takes on less cap yes but it has an extra year. While Mantha's a higher cap hit but is up this summer freeing 5.7m from MTL

Montreal should jump at this but the Caps should shoot it down imo. There is no way they should take on the extra year.

Nope. Rather just keep Mantha than have Armia on the books next year

why they do have 14,875,00 in cap space next season without many big players to sign on a team downgrading and needs a rebuild. Armia is a great pker to help your youngster.

Why wouldn't the Habs just keep Armia then? They'll have even more cap space than Washington (after LTIR).

Also, I doubt Washington rebuilds. They probably should, but I doubt they will. They'll likely try and retool, in which case they'll need the cap space

MTL needs to add here and I'd be ok with that frankly. Nothing crazy but Mantha even though makes more this year, is worth more than Armia whose got another year left.

This would be fine for WSH if they wanted to tank, but that doesn't seem likely so MTL might need to add a mid-round pick. I'd argue MTL's fine to keep Armia around for now though, so if it's not 1-for-1, it might not be worth doing

I just don't see why Washington would do this unless they REALLY needed that 2.3m to make another move but what other move could they make with that money that turns them into a playoff team? If they looked like they could compete for a playoff spot and were going to add another defender or depth forward at the deadline then sure I could see it but why would they do that rn. The flexibility for next year is much more important for where this team is right now
