Toronto and the Hawks both decline that first trade. Vancouver declines the 2nd. They won't use their 1st to move Myers. Even with the 2nd coming back.

Its a generous offer for Myers. I doubt it makes sense unless we have another move in mind that significantly improves us and probably is for a contract controlled player. Which seems unlikely.

Mrazek looks hands down better then Samsonov this season so far, if that trend continues it will be significant entering the playoffs. Leafs need another stay at home defender to balance their pairings in the top 4. McCabe is a 3rd liner as you know and there's a gap in the top 4. Explain how this doesn't help the Leafs.

The way the Knucks are playing, freeing up $6M will come to good use as they make a run for the playoffs.

Not sure Toronto declines that. Also, if the Knucks are playing the way they are playing and gunning for the playoffs with their eyes set on filling a gap, they will need cap space and a late 1st to a late 2nd to give them that flexibility is worth it.

I don't really see any way Canucks part with such a prime asset to offload a contract that is expiring anyways. As much as this team is oriented for this year, they also want to show Petey that they can be competitive for years to come. Given their logic thus far, I think it is more likely that they wait for the Myers contract to expire, and then trade that 1st for a significant defensive piece that fits their age cohort (see the Hronek trade). I think management is smart enough to not waste such a valuable asset to move one year of money.

Ironically, the Leafs traded Mrazek 2 years ago to Chicago for a cap dump.

All time move if they get a first rounder to trade him back. lol

It’s been 4 games for Samsonov..

People on here always say Leafs fans overreact but look at users like you 😂

This doesn’t help the Leafs. They’re downgrading at goaltending while improving at defence when they don’t have a spot for Murphy. They’d have to move a defender out in order to even have him play so the “upgrade” isn’t really as much as it seems. And with how much of a downgrade Mrazek is it’s not really an upgrade at all.

I don't think either team does this. Don't love the TOR trade from our perspective either honestly

There will be way better options for Toronto’s first pick than a depth defenseman

Ill take the much larger sample size of a season over 4 games LOL. theres a reason the leafs moved down in the draft to dump him. they can do better with that package

He’s under 40% corsi, fenwick, xGF, provides no offense. He’s not even a 1RD on the worst team in the league.

He plays the 5th most minutes on that team so he’s a big part of it.
He’s a shot blocking 3rd pair guy on a playoff team

For starters, you have Toronto sending the Hawks a $3.5m cap hit and taking back $4.1m. That's an extra $600k cap space they don't have. If the Leafs look to upgrade their goalie, I can't imagine Mrazak is anywhere on that list. Who's advising Trevling? Stan Bowman? They gave up a 1st to dump him, remember? Plus, that return for Murphy and $8m in retention is pretty bad for the Hawks, do they don't make the deal either. And yes, the Canucks will need cap space if they stay in playoff contention. Still don't see them trading away that 1st to move Myers though. I think it's much more likely they move Garland.

That 1st doesn't even cover the retention amount.

Yeah. And if that other move were significant enough to require moving a $6m cap hit, it would probably also require spending VAN's 2024 1st. Which would then make it unavailable for the purpose of dumping a player, and I highly doubt VAN would want to move two first round picks to get one move done.

Correct, if you factor in the Murphy contract, 2.2 over a few more seasons, they probably shouldn't retain anymore contracts.

I just think it would be funny, that's all. especially since it's 6 games in to the season.
