I would swap Farrell and Mesar

Kovacevic is a bit random…why him?

I’m not mad at Smith…he was hired to be steady #7. No more. Miller, Foote should get chances before we dip into trade market. But I do think we will have to add someone.

Brendan Smith ruins my Luke Hughes viewing experience on a nightly basis. Lindy refuses to bench him. Fitzy needs to take it into his own hands Billy beane style and trade Smith away

NHLfannumber is too positive on everyone. I agree smith should never see the ice, but when Miller was terrible in preseason he lost his chance and now he is hurt plus Nemec is hurt too. But noone is trading for Smith. Zadorov or Carrier would be top trade target but the price might be high.

I would love Pearson, 4th line LW, much better than Nosek. Does alot of things the Devils are missing. They still wont hit, they need to be physical and gritty, and Pearson actually Hits and he can score at a much better clip.

The difference is the devils would provide an upgrade for you at every single slot on your roster. If you look at the line combos and compare, the devils are better at every, single, slot.

Virtually none of your roster cracks our top 6 or top 4. Only a couple crack our top 9 or beat out anyone but brendan smith defensively

It'll take quite a few more bad games of Schmid and Vanacek, and quite a few more good games from allen, to override the sample size of last year where Schmid and Vanacek were much better.

Savard would 100% be an upgrade on brendan smith.

Unfortunately they aren't worth their cap hits, and they both have term.

What do we do with Savard at 3.5 next year when he doesn't beat out any of Nemec Hughes Hamilton Bahl Siegs or Marino?

I'd rather trade for a 1 year goalie a la korpisalo last year, (or vejmelka who I'd love to see us acquire), and then see what's available in the offseason. Allen is at best a mediocre goalie. Not for nearly 4 mill

So no interest

well yeah, we just started rebuilding and you have been doing it for years, makes sense you have generally better players. it also make no sense to buy your players since we are rebuilding too.

You'd buy almost all of our players.

You'd buy Hughes, Hughes, Marino, Siegs, Bratt, Hischier, Meier, Mercer, Holtz, etc etc etc.

Because they are all young with term on their control

lol. how about you stick to the devils.

no point in spending all our assets to buy expensive players if we cant surround them with other players to win.

i also remember when the devils traded all their young guys and pick to build a contenter. waiiiiit. no you built trought the draft, like all contenders are doing, just like we are gonna do.

so yeah we wont be buying your players unless they are at a discount. it makes no sense.

Hughes, Hischier, Hughes Marino Siegs Bratt Meier, Mercer Nemec Holtz are all young and locked up long term.

Those are guys you buy regardless.

Ok for fun, what exactly is fair value for Slaf and Kovacevic? Its kind of a loose term and can mean different things to different ppl.

Probably a 3rd at most I'd think would be reasonable a la schenn deal. 3rd pairing guy, nothing more, but cheap contract gives him value.
This is assuming Miller doesn't get his **** together and Nemec doesn't do enough in his 9 game tryout to justify burning an ELC year.

Slaf, I think the most reasonable price that would appeal to both teams would involve Holtz. Holtz++, who I value at a 1st, and then I'd probably add another 1st onto there. Maybe some other minor adds if needed. Slaf would have more value to me, but unlike nemec who will have 3 full ELC years, slaf will have already burned 2 at this point instead of developing in the AHL and sliding.

Yep Kovacevic at best is a 3rd rounder I would say.

Slaf on the other hand is a tough one to swallow. You'd have to agree that if Slafs value as former 1OV seems to have lessened slightly in your eyes after a mediocre rookie season, that would also mean Holtz no longer holds that 7OV pedigree either and would be a mid-late 1st round value after failing to crack the lineup the past couple years and only starting to play regular minutes. Regardless though, even if you say Holtz value is equivalent of a 1st something similar to a 15-16OV pick this year, add on top a late 1st rounder the devils are sure to have and I don't see how the Habs feeling good about this deal. Even if you add some extra fluff. Not that the Habs would be interested I don't think after drafting Reinbacher but Nemec seems like the only valid swap here if both teams were inclined to hammer out a deal.

Fair enough on the slaf deal. I just can't see the devils going much more based on Slaf only having 1 ELC year after this.

A nemec swap wouldn't make much sense to me as I personally think nemec is a fair bit better, in addition to playing a more valuable position in RD and having 3 full years at 950k when the devils will need that cap.

Regardless of the team situation. It's why Habs fans clamoured for PLD, and Pettersson, and Hart, etc etc. bc young, controlled, PROVEN studs are better to any team than crapshoot prospects. It's why, outside of the true top prospects, prospects and picks are thrown around like candy

Realistically though, the only player I see making sense on the Devils is Pearson at the TDL. He's been pretty darn good now that he's healthy and would be a good 3rd line depth piece for the playoff run. Wouldn't cost much either unless he keeps up his torrent pace.

Savard if he didn't have term would have been one I might have been open to.

Pearson could make sense if one of our current top 9 gets hurt , but rn that's pretty locked in. And I'm not sure I'd want Pearson in a 4th line role
