Johnson

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 3, 2023
Published: Nov. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The hawks are all about building this thing slowly and I don’t foresee them targeting Johnson, but if they did this is where I think they might go with it.
Trades
CHI
  1. Johnson, Kent
Additional Details:
Hawks get a piece for the future to add to the center collection. Has a bit of size at 6 1, at least bigger than many of our C prospects.
CBJ
  1. Del Mastro, Ethan
  2. Kurashev, Philipp
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Hawks don’t have a lot to offer the CBJ would want, but there was a report that CBJ was interested in Kurashev during the Seth Jones trade discussions. They can also replace a 2nd round pick with one of Chicagos (probably the best one) and take a pick of another prospect on the back end.

I think they would expect at least Reichel coming back

This is not enough quality for kj. Starts with reichel and adding from there.

Reichel would be fair value one for one, but the hawks don’t want to move him so no avenue there.

I disagree, no team is going to offer a first for him at this point in the season (contenders will have asset and opportunity deficits while rebuilders first rounders will be too steep a price). Outside of a lateral talent swap this is getting three high quality nhl assets for 1. NHL front offices will always love their own guys more than other franchises guys, it’s a familiarity issue so I would say a lateral move this early in the season is unlikely.

Ethan Del Maestro is a legitimate nhl prospect, and Kurashev is an established NHL player albeit with a lower ceiling than Johnson. Even it out with what is essentially a late first round pick with Chicagos early 2nd and I don’t see a team in the league that easily beats this offer at this point in the season.

Most likely this is something that will be sorted out over the season, and maybe next offseason, but it’s a legitimate offer taking into account the mentality of an NHL GM.

When you are in “trouble” another GM is going to throw you an Anchor instead of a life vest.

“Has a bit of size” um no, he’s like 160lbs. That’s part of the problem. He might be six feet tall, but he has no mass. Maybe read anything about the player besides rumors before embarrassing yourself.

CHI should not do this. Nor should CBJ. Let's just keep our eyes on the prize and stop getting distracted by other teams drama.

Incredibly ironic that you left out the context of “ at least bigger than many of our C prospects.” which appears directly after what you are referencing. Still I confess that this post isn’t incredibly well researched, but that’s the thing about cap friendly no one is embarrassing themselves by making a post. Take yourself a little less seriously.

I agree but it’s also fun to explore the option.

Oh, my bad. Yeah, definitely. I wish it were this simple. I'd love to be able to actually see different combinations of players on the ice and how they mesh together, or even simulate it with a higher degree of accuracy than a video game or some arbitrary and/or heavily flawed analytics model. I just fear spending so many futures on them that we end up being a top heavy dud, with a bunch of inflated contracts, stuck in mediocrity for a decade, trading guys away that end up being important players for some other team and regretting it. I also think chemistry plays a much bigger role in the NHL than most give it credit for. People act like some GM's are geniuses, but the reality is they have a whole team of people around them to help them make these decisions and implement their ideas/vision. The rest is just development, coaching, culture, chemistry, and A LOT of luck.
