AZ passes quickly, 2 AHLers, bottom pair D, and a 2nd (AZ has plenty)

I mean it’s kind of a stretch to call Smith and Poulin AHLers. Like yeah that’s where they are playing but Smith only because the pens have like 10 nhl caliber dmen and Poulin is only in the AHL because of Carter.

im not saying they suck or dont have potential, but poulin has 3 NHL games (I know he is young) and smith cant beat out POJ, shea, ludvig or ruhwedel for roster spot, but AZ is giving up their top scorer/almost ppg last 2 years (under good contract). AZ has lots a prospects and picks, trading away top line W for more doesnt make sense.

Arizona is in a total rebuild though. They shouldn’t be looking for nhl players. And no team is going to trade nhl level talent for him unless it’s lesser talent cause they want an upgrade. So Arizona is going to want potential for a trade. I’m not saying this trade would be exactly what AZ is looking for but it’s not far off. But it doesn’t really make sense for Pitt either as they are essentially replacing Guentzel with Schmaltz which is a downgrade.

AZ is past the dumping everyone to build prospects n picks stage. AZ is not looking to trade him, if teams are trying to get him because they want him they need to pony up, AZ has no reason to trade him.

No they aren’t. Arizona stinks and doesn’t have much in the way of hope coming up lol. Arizona has had some awful management.

I don't 100%-know what the deal would be honestly, but I think DS has Guentzel as one of his likely top-6 targets...

I think BOS really tries to hold onto their NHLers (esp. the young guys - yeah they are old too like PITT).

Basic framework:
LW-Guentzel +, + ... < < for > > G-Ullmark, +, +...

yeah they have but only matters management currently. PITT is going nowhere this year and has a retirement home aged roster, no cap space, little draft capital and bad prospect pool - good luck for the foreseeable future

Right…Pitt is in win now mode and win as many as possible before the core retires. So this absolutely makes sense for them as they don’t care about prospects as much. And the prospect pool has gotten better over the past few years.

Yes it does make sense for Arizona lol. Again Arizona needs prospects and picks that are nhl caliber which POJ, Smith, and Poulin are. Pitt needs to win now.

AZ has 36 picks next 3 years (20 in top 3 rounds) think they enough picks. Poulin isnt ranked in top 100 (he is #5 in PITT, only yaeger is top100) so not going to put him as much, smith dropped from NHL to AHL this and last year, and POJ is 6/7 D (AZ drafted him BTW). AZ prospect pool is ranked #10. sorry nothing here is close to makeing AZ want to deal schmaltz

Again, Smith is in the AHL because the past 2 years the pens have had 9+ nhl defenseman. He’d absolutely make Arizona’s roster. Same with POJ. Rebuilders, especially a team like Arizona that doesn’t spend to the cap and constantly has to restock through the draft even the rare times they are good need all the draft picks they can get.

whatever we'll never know if POJ and smith would make the team, AZ isnt trading schmaltz for those pieces and a 37th pick no matter how much you want it. Ill bet you AZ finishing better than PITT and the next years PITT will be bottom feeder. keep your picks and your guys you think so highly of.
