I understand the *pass* from NYR fans.
And I understand the *pass* from the Habs side too.

NYRangers would trade Laffy for something meaty right NOW.
Habs are not in a rush to see Slaf come into his own. And so they will be patient with him.

This deal might have been done before the contract and now beginning to break out. However it makes more sense that both pass because NYR need the better player today and tomorrow while MTL needs the youth to stay the course and not put them in cap crunches too soon. These players will develop at a similar rate I expect and fit their current windows better. I could see NYR doing Kakko for Slaf but again, the MTL window is better with Slaf
