The worst part of it is that he'd have signed for so much less if they'd signed him long term that summer. He still wanted to be our captain, and his contract number heading into Arbitration was 9mil, which means he didn't think he'd get even close to 9mil. They probably could have given him like 8.5×8 and he'd have been a Sen for life.

Edit: also Hamonic shouldn't play another second with Sanderson. He's like a pair of cement shoes for Sanderson

Hawks decline instantly. In no particular order:
*Hawks are in no position to be giving up ANY futures for another overpaid D man.
*$17.5m cap hit on a top pair that isn't elite - recipe for disaster down the road
*Hawks have their future 1LD already. Maybe their future 1LD and 2LD. So why exactly do they trade for Chabot?

All the Hawks ready prospects are LD. They need RD. And you just said Chabot can't play RD. Not to mention the years of 8M left on that deal. We already are paying Seth Jones 9.5. That just isn't going to work. Not a chance.

Hawks have more LD prospects than they know what to do with, so they have no want or reason to go after Chabot. As for Stone, I don't know if that's supposed to be a serious trade offer or just roughly reversing the Stone trade, but Vegas obviously says no

The "Chabot is overpaid" crusade is so ridiculous (not talking about what the OP said)... just another example that many hockey fans don't understand the game enough

He's 17th in PPG among D-men since 2018-19, his 21 y/o season, 2nd in TOI/GP among all NHL players (only behind Doughty). Yes he turns the puck over but Doughty also does (even if not as much) and he's one of the best 2-way D-men of his generation. That's what happens when a D-man plays a lot of minutes and possesses the puck a lot

If the last 3 games are not the perfect example of what Chabot brings to a hockey team, then nothing is. Team's advanced stats have been horrible since Chabot (and Brannstrom) are injured. Today's NHL is a lot about transition, denials and recoveries.

Yep, trading Chabot (and Brannstrom) brings us back to not having a solid enough defense and forces us to have Hamonic hold back Sanderson or Chychrun. Really not what the Sens need to do

Not having Stone is the result of the Melnyk/Dorion era, we are finally getting out of it, still recovering

Am I wrong in saying he’s the 3rd best left d on this team? It’s not a shot at chabot it’s a compliment to Sanderson and Chychrun.

Time is running so I'll copy/paste something I have wrote on Saturday :

It's not because we have all of Sanderson, Chychrun and Chabot that I would want to get rid of one.

IMO we HAVE TO take advantage of this. The only problem is no one seems a great fit to play RD but we initially thought Chychrun would be that guy, not sure why it didn't happen. But anyway, need to see the GM/coaching situation fixed first and then re-evaluate

So despite Chabot having to play his off-side and the small sample size at ES :

    - 1st in CF/60
    - 3rd in CA/60 (behind Brannstrom and Zub)
    - 1st in CF%

    - 4th in SF/60
    - 3rd in SA/60 (behind Brannstrom and JBD)
    - 3rd in SF% (behind Chychrun and Zub)

    - 3rd in xGF/60 (behind Chychrun and Sanderson)
    - 3rd in xGA/60 (behind Zub and Brannstrom)
    - 1st in xGF% (only Chabot and Zub have over 49.03%)
