Canucks would have to add for that. And I think they're looking at bringing Tanny back, not going for an unknown.

Zadorov would be a fantastic add for Vancouver, if they think he can play the right side, or shift Cole or Soucy to the right. His game really rounded into form under Sutter's tutelage, and beyond his defensive capabilities and the occasional big hits, you can see him at times rushing the puck up the ice, or pinching in and getting the puck to his linemates in the middle, I think he's underrated there. Zadorov/Soucy or Zadorov/Myers as a 2nd pair behind Hughes/Hronek, with Cole pairing with either Myers or Soucy on the 3rd pair, looks pretty good for that team right now. He is also a vocal guy who expects accountability from his teammates. Great fit for a Tocchet team.

But that said, the Canucks probably prefer a right shot guy(?), and Tanev, while older, does fit that, plus the familiarity with the organization and city. Plus what you said, not a good enough return.

Yeah definitely. Zadorov is amazing, but I think he isn't what we're looking for right now. Tanny for the reasons you mentioned is who I think we're looking at. Plus I think Tanev would be slightly more affordable than Zadorov. The difference is small, but I think the Canucks could swing a cheaper deal.

Haha, I mean, now I'm suddenly pumped up on the idea that Zadorov is the guy your team should want lol. He will last longer, if they can sign him to a 6-7 year extension to end his career, the Canucks could lower the yearly cap hit.

Sorry, it's an older post now, but I thought of something else to justify Zad for you lol, though I'd prefer Calgary keeps him. Reason is I do think he's a more intimidating and "rougher" defenceman than Tanev is. If the Canucks do make the playoffs, they'll contend with either the Kings as a 2/3 situation, or as a WC with Vegas or some Central Div team. Either way, especially if they meet Vegas at some point, with their general team toughness, they could really use a guy like Zadorov who can just drop a guy or two with an open-icer and send a message like nobody else on the team can, that the Canucks won't be f-ed with either.

The Canucks are going to have to rely on their character and identity to remain successful (like the 2004 Flames), especially this year. Zadorov can help set a tone far better than Tanev can in my opinion, just seeing what Z brings to us here.

Oh yeah 100% you'd rather keep him than unload him for assets. Zad has heart, and character. Which I think is a large part of what has helped the Flames somewhat pullout of the nosedive. The Flames need a little bit of stability and shake up to make the playoffs this year, which I think they can get without trading Zadorov. But definitely get your point, 9/10 times you want Zadorov over Tanny. But Tanny would cost us less to acquire, which would probably be more appealing to Allvin and CO right now. Our futures aren't the hottest, and we unload more of that, only to get dipped in round 1 or 2. That will suck.

That only assumes this year is the only year. If this is just the start of something bigger for this Canucks group, and the guys like Raty, Lekkerimaki and their 1st round D selection from 2023 I can't remember coming up, then a round 1 or 2 exit shouldn't matter, they shouldn't expect the Cup right away with the competition they have. Progress shown smile

I get your cost argument though.

With the news of Zad requesting a trade though, I could see the Canucks maybe being able to get him for a bit less than if the Flames wanted to keep him around. He'd be a perfect second pairing anchor behind the Hughes Hronek pair.

Go for gold. But Chris Johnston reported that evidently he would "welcome a move to Toronto", and hopes for a "quick resolution".

Yeah was reading TO was likely the destination to try for him. Brad ofc has seen much of him.
