How an actual Tanev to Toronto trade would look

Created by: Ledge_And_Dairy

Description
Stop including Klingberg to Calgary, Flames don't want him and he is fine as long as your actual d-core has depth. He's also got a very proven playoff history so Toronto should keep him.

Tanev at 75% retention has a very manageable cap hit of 1.125M and the retaining team would be paying him less than 275k in actual money so it shouldn't cost more than a 5th.

Klingberg is moved to CGY, mostly bc Leafs fans (including myself) include Zadorov and other assets too and cap management

This would only happen under the following conditions:

    1) CGY is 100% out of it
    2) Timmins is Healthy
    3) CGY didn’t receive a better offer
    4) We’re approaching the Final Hours before the Deadline

I think EDM & TOR both need to make a move sooner than that though

Me neither. I don't think pegula is gonna have any interest in buying fifth round picks.

I mean Klingberg would go the other way to make the money work lets be real.

At that point if CGY is trading guys like this they dont care whose coming they just want picks and to tank

Unless Toronto was going for multiple CGY pieces I dont see why they would want a 3 team trade

An example was 2022 Toronto didnt really need Minny for the ROR trade but because they wanted to keep Kerfoot had to use it.

picked a team 20M+ deadline cap space and probably aren't selling. Could be Detroit, Columbus, Winniepeg, Nashville, Anaheim, Chicago, whatever. It's a free asset for virtually nothing I dot see it as any different from Minnesota helping facilitate 2 trades last deadline

I don't agree. I think a 1st and Timmins is a very reasonable return. I doubt Toronto makes any rash moves right now though. Edmonton maybe

Clearly you value Timmins and late 1st Round Picks more than I do. It’s not unreasonable, but given the clear interest and demand for Tanev, that gets beat easily

The pick should be easy…but I bet the player comes from off the roster if they are asking for 75% retention.

Why do you and most of your fellow Toronto adherents think that Calgary is going to treat Tanev and Zadorov as a matched set that cannot be broken up?

I think that it's more likely that Calgary will re-sign Zadorov than that the Flames will trade both of them in the same package.

BC Treliving is targeting both... As stated by multiple sources... So why make two separate trades with the same team within a few weeks?

The only thing that you can infer linguistically from the phrase "targeting both" is that he wants one or the other, not that he's set on acquiring both of them, at the same time OR separately.

I dont think it gets beat easily. I was simply setting a standard expectation. Value varies on demand. I would not be surprised if he gets a better return, but I would bot be mad with this return

Yeah sure, it’s better than nothing and letting Tanev walk to Free Agency, right!? C’mon what’s the matter with you!?

I’m still holding out to see what we can get from EDM = Higher Pick + Replacement Player in Ceci maybe and a Former Top Prospect in Broberg or better yet, Holloway maybe!? Perhaps we send them a Pick or Greer or something to balance it out, but let’s not settle for less than we have too

I really don't think you understand the purpose of this post. This is supposed to be a standard value return that os more about the cost of double retention and not offloading Klingberg. This is not about what I am hold out for or being greedy for
