You would thoroughly know better than I would, but as a passive observer there isn't anything that screams top-pairing on Calgary's left side once/if both Hanafin and Zadorov are moved. I feel like there's some sense in a Chabot-Weegar swap so long as Calgary is getting a few assets (Thompson? A second?) in return.

I can also see it being a bit of deck chair shuffling aboard the Titanic, but a left side of Chabot, Kylington, and Kuznetsov/Poirier is still pretty decent. Andersson still keeps his spot as the #1RD and, god forbid the Flames can't find their #1C in this draft, there are plenty of high-end RHD in this class.

Honestly Weegar is def the better Dman between the 2 but Chabot’s deal expires at 31 at the end of his prime and Weegar expires at 37. I would def rather Chabot but ottawa is desperate for defence that can defend at a high level

I'm personally a stickler for handedness so I honestly thought this was a great LHD for a great RHD swap that both teams would hate but benefit from.

Chabot-Andersson and Sanderson-Weegar would be such good D pairs

Need to reach the cap floor still and Weegar is a great partner moving forward for Poirier. Also I doubt their rebuild is more than a couple years

Poirier exists. So do returns for Flames prospects. Lastly Weegar has been play 1LD for a large portion of this season and did in Florida too

I don't want Weegar until he's 37 either. Ha. I'd prefer to get back upcoming UFA Dylan Demelo.
Not as flashy but a top 4 RHD who plays a simple game, wanted to stay in Ottawa, and we can sign him to a 4 year deal for 2/3 what Weegar costs.
