Carter has a full NMC - which stands for "No Movement Clause." That means he can't be traded or even sent down without his consent. He holds the keys to all of it.
- This is likely his last season
- He's made it clear to the media on MULTIPLE occasions that he wants a chance to win another cup
- He's a 38 year-old player who's hit his full decline and can't even hold a spot in the lineup
Challenge 1? Him being open to a trade. MAYBE if he continues to be scratched he would be open to trade. MAYBE. There's a good to better chance he waits things out to slide back into the lineup when injuries happen.
Challenge 2? Finding a play-off bound team that would actually WANT a 38 year old player who can't play anymore, let alone them being a team he'd be ok going to. That becomes a VERY small list.
He won't go to any team that's rebuilding, retooling or is simply not a playoff team. With all do respect to the ducks, they will come back down to earth soon enough. They will likely be selling at the deadline, not buying.
