              💯 🎯

Is that with or without retention though and did you include the sweetener to ensure your Team wins the Zadorov sweepstakes over the other handful of GMs salivating over him!?

              Using comps above....roughly:

              4th for Zadorov
              3rd for Zadorov at 50%
              Maybe late pick as sweetener

              "CONROY LAUGHS IN YOUR FACE"

(but 31 other GMs nod approvingly)

              What Zadorov may cost

Sometimes with pending unrestricted free agents on the trade board, a lot of the conversation turns to what their next contract may look like. That tends to be the case for higher-tier players who are available for trade and could be the case if (or when) Hanifin moves this season. But there won’t necessarily be that consideration for Zadorov — he’s more fitting as a rental for the rest of the year, which means a lower return for general managers. Something like a third-round pick could be fair, with the Luke Schenn return in mind at the last deadline.

A key difference between Zadorov and Schenn, though, is the cap they take up this season (Schenn’s AAV was $850,000 at the time of the deal compared to Zadorov’s $3.75 million). So for a cap-strapped contender to make this work without retention, maybe the cost trends down — plus, the Flames don’t have much leverage. Sure, the team could wait, but they only risk burning themselves if a deal doesn’t materialize ahead of the deadline. With some cap retention, or a willingness to take back a contract (especially if that piece could be a forward who could play alongside Jonathan Huberdeau), Calgary could pump up the return.

Oh...someone has been saying something similar.

A 3rd or less depending on cap.

I usually like and respect most of what you have to say around here, but you are so way off on this one.

Look up and read some of the Trade Speculation pieces on Zadorov. They’re talking starting with a 1st, Cowan, Minten, Robertson out of TOR. A 1st and Garland out of VAN

Your compa are way off and comparing him to what he was in 2021 shows you haven’t been watching or paying attention to him or the Rumors swirling around him right now.

Not really saying this so much for you, but so the other readers know how far off your comps are and to peel the onion and look for themselves.

If Tor wants to go chips in and pay that, then have at it. Fitz has always done well as far as I'm concerned even on guys I want and we don't get

You’re hilarious without trying to be here lol

Comparing Zadorov to Schenn is asinine. Schenn was recently an AHL’er. Sure he’s Strong and Gritty in front of the net, but he’s old, slow and doesn’t produce points, he’s what they refer to as a Pylon lol 😂

I guarantee you right now Zadorov doesn’t go for anything less than a 2nd/Equivalent with no retention and could go for a 1st+ with 50-75% retention and again, that’s IF we can’t figure things out and keep him. Someone will make us an offer we can’t refuse if/when that’s the case

Savard...maybe....but I cannot add Chiarot and Risto trades as they are generally seen has two of the worst trades for dmen

So you think he returns a 1st round pick plus. It seems there are a bunch of people that agree with you.

My money is still on mid pick.

They certainly are bad trades, but IMO they belong because GMs keep making them.

Honestly I have no dog in the fight and just enjoy good debates and playing devil's advocate at times. Though if I had to choose a most likely range I would say he is likely to return (with retention) something between a 2nd and 1st round pick IMO.

It just seems like every year there is this big 4/5 defensive defenseman who everybody thinks shouldn't cost a 1st but somehow always winds up getting it. This year I think Zadorov might be that guy. Every year I tell myself that GMs will change and be more careful with their picks but there's always that one GM who thinks the big defensive defenseman is his missing piece. If Tor wants to go chips in and pay that, then have at it. Fitz has always done well as far as I'm concerned even on guys I want and we don't get

Yeah, I don’t disagree, why would NJD pursue Zadorov when they have Bahl, unless they think they’re contenders and he’ll make a much greater impact and be more of a difference maker than Bahl or Smith

I would hope you agree Zadorov >> Bahl/Smith, but regardless, it doesn’t make sense for NJD to pay the assets it’s going to take to acquire Big-Z as long as they’re on the outside of the Playoff Picture looking in 👀

We’re in no particular rush to move Zadorov, if we move him, it’ll be on our terms and/or sorry to be so repetitive, but we get an absolute beauty of an offer we’d be silly and simply can’t turn down.

Not many 6’6 250lbs Dmen out there that can Score 14 Goals or 30-50PTS in a season, especially given 20:00ATOI + PP Time. Unlike these horrific comps and MTL’s Vhiarot and CLB’s Savard, Big-Z’s just entering his prime and is still getting better

              Appreciate the nice words...seriously, thanks.

Maybe I am wrong. I usually ignore 'speculative' pieces...lots are click-bait.

The best guide, imo, is using past trade comps. Most of the time...they turn out closer than most fan speculation.

That was a quote from the article...not my words,

I've given up expecting any different at this point.

There are always exceptions to the rule...(see: Jeannot, Tanner).
But most of the time...comps tell you what market is paying.

I think between 3rd and 4th depending on other pieces involved

Yes, CGY’s struggling this year, but we’re talking about Zadorov, who’s not and not CGY’s Defence as a whole

You just listed 25/32 Teams you could see Zadorov filling a spot on and we know there’s already interest in him from TOR, NJD, BOS, VAN with more to come I would gather

I could easily see him at 2LD on TOR, LAK, FLA, NYI, VAN, STL, WSH contributing 0.30-0.50PPG too, so that’s 12/32.

Okay, you’re right, I’m off by 5 Teams, my bad

Zadorov is NOT playing 2LD in Toronto. Rielly, Brodie, McCabe, Gio all get that spot before he does.

Now Toronto likely wants to limit Gio's minutes and have Brodie at 1RD, but that still leaves Zadorov at 3LD.

Zadorov and Bahl can be debated...but Z likely has edge.
Bahl has shown flashes of solid play...but honestly, I think its a hard system for him. Gotta be quick and accurate with puck.
But mixing those guys in with Smith is an insult to both of them.
Smith has been brutal (hence the NJD interest in rental dmen)
              I'd take anyone over Smith.

I seriously do appreciate you and your opinion on this site and I know I’m biased to my Team & Players, but I’m adamant Zadorov is a Diamond in the rough and is much better than guys think, especially those who just look at stats and PPG’s (not saying that’s you)

He can do it all. Big, Young, Fast, Nice Shot, Can Skate and Puck Handle the Puck from end line to end line, Drops the Gloves, He’s a Wall. I could go on and on and I just think he’s continuing to improve and will be a force in the league for the possibly the next 8-12 years like Chara was

One of the things Calgary fans also don't see to get is that its a heavy Buyers market.

Who is actively looking for a D? Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, Dallas, Minnesota, New Jersey?

Thats 6 teams looking for D. Who is for sale?

He's 28 that's not exactly young. That's normally an age you hate trading for a player cause the 7/8 year deal has cap dump years at the end.

Zadorov >> Brodie and Giordano who’s best days are well behind them at this point and he’s >>> McCabe who never really had ANY glory days.

I mean BUF & CHI had to put a warm body out there and he was bound to touch the puck before Eichel, Skinner, P.Kane & J.Toews to get a few points when he was on the ice for all that time. His stats on the first 21 Games for TOR weren’t bad, but since then he’s been horrendous and what’s known in business as a liability

You’re just so cute. That’s a huge generalization right there

Let me educate you a bit. Forwards typically play at their peak between 23-29yo (it’s progressively gotten younger through the years, as it’s a much faster game these days)

DMen & Goalies, on the other hand, typically take a bit longer to develop (fill out their bodies, build up their strength and increase their Hockey IQ and Play Reading abilities), so they usually don’t hit their prime playing days till they’re 25-27 and usually don’t start falling off till they’re 32+.

I mean look at guys like Chelios, Chara, Giordano, Burns and so on. Dmen and Goalies can still be quite effective till they’re 38-40 years old, so yes, 28 is still considered Young for a Defensemen and Goalie but not Forwards

Weegar IS NOT available and unlike Zadorov, most those guys either suck, aren’t comparable or simply won’t be made available via trade this year

I mean look at guys like Chelios, Chara, Giordano, Burns and so on. Dmen and Goalies can still be quite effective till they’re 38-40 years old, so yes, 28 is still considered Young for a Defensemen and Goalie but not Forwards

You just said prime was 25-27 for a D but that 28 is young? Which one is it.

If he was young then a D's prime should be 29+

Also nobody is going to trade for him and sign him till he's 35+ hoping he can play into his 40s. Yes its more common for D but its still not common at all. Gio is doing it, Chara before him. A few can do it, they also got some stuff in common like they normally win a Norris, so when they get worse they go from #1D in the world to 2nd/3rd pairing. It's hard to age from 3rd pairing D and not be out of the league. Not really much place to go.

I’m not doing all the research for you. Don’t be lazy, spell out how, who and what they are, are they Pending UFA’s, RFA’s or do they’d till have term, are they any good or desirable, how old are they!?

Weegar IS NOT available and unlike Zadorov, most those guys either suck, aren’t comparable or simply won’t be made available via trade this year

I literally just gave you a list, all of them are likely to be on the market, I didn't just name some random D lol.

If he was young then a D's prime should be 29+

Also nobody is going to trade for him and sign him till he's 35+ hoping he can play into his 40s. Yes it’s more common for D but it’s still not common at all. Gio is doing it, Chara before him. A few can do it, they also got some stuff in common like they normally win a Norris, so when they get worse they go from #1D in the world to 2nd/3rd pairing. It's hard to age from 3rd pairing D and not be out of the league. Not really much place to go.

Read it again, I said they hit their primes between 25-27 and don’t fall off till 32+, so that’s a 25-32 window

Zadorov will likely be looking for a 4-6 year contract, but teams often try to bring the cap hit down by sometimes offering 7-8 year contracts, knowing the last couple years are going to be a gamble and that they may have to do a buyout, sit them in the press box or hope they get injuries and can stick them in LTIR, in which they get Cap Relief to use elsewhere

              So either a 4-6 year contract at $3.75-4.75mil/yr = $19-22.5 million total or 7-8 years @ $3-3.5mil/yr = $24-25 million as a random example

I should have to say this but knowing you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed the longer the cheaper, so 3.75mil x 6yrs = $22.5 million and $4.75 x 4yrs = $19 million
