Initial Creation Date: Nov. 16, 2023
Published: Nov. 16, 2023

Description
Fire Lane Lambert and replace him with a veteran coach. Gallant, Boudreau, Sutter, Roy, Vigneault, Hynes. I don't care. And also add some new/familiar faces to the locker room

Trades
NYI
  1. Zadorov, Nikita ($1,875,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Aho is a 7th defenseman at best IMO. Zadorov has shown the ability to put up points and plays a very physical game. I could see a 3-4 year extension over the summer if he plays well.
CGY
  1. Wahlstrom, Oliver
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Wahlstrom is a victim to the numbers game. Simon Holmstrom looks like an every day player (and is a fantastic PKer). You have a Gauthier/Fasching who can slot in to the bottom-6 in place of Wahlly. Then you have guys like Dufour/Maggio/Iskhakov arriving in the near-ish future.

I like Walstrom but this just feels like another Sharangovich trade for Calgary. I would rather add futures

How about Lindholm? Is defense really the issue with the Islanders? I'm not being cheeky I don't follow them much but I never hear of them needing defense.

LD3 is definitely an issue for us. Lindholm would be great but the issue is what his next contract will look like (and how much he would cost to acquire)

I think the last thing we should pay assets on is a defenseman. I'd rather just roll with Aho and Bolduc in a platoon for the LD3 spot, or we get someone slightly better but can be acquired for cheap (like Riley Stillman or something).

Lindholm would be nice but I don't know how we can make him work. If we trade Pageau+ for him, Lindholm becomes the 3C, which isn't a good role for him. If he plays RW, we'd have to get another of our RWs out of position. We really really need a LW.

What about Ahos game/impact says he’s a 7D?

I don't like his turnovers. He gets pushed off the puck way too easily. His skating is solid but to me I think he's the very obvious odd man out if D is upgraded

So you don’t like his style of play. That doesn’t have anything to do with his impact. He’s good at generating offensive and he’s also solid defensively.

Based on merit, he shouldn’t be the odd man out .

The issue with the Islanders is they don't have any goal scorers. They can't score 5v5 and live and die by the PP.

After posting this yesterday someone I listen to went into the Islanders a bit. It made me realize Lindholms not a great target for them because of what you mention.

He scores, has scored 40, but he's billed as an excellent 2 way center, kinda just more of the same for the Islanders.
