Full Rebuild 2024

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2024-25 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2023
Published: Nov. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this scenario, Calgary finally decides to tear out down and do a full Rebuild. Is it likely Calgary does this? Probably not.

Since this is a full rebuild and tear down, I decided to trade all pending UFAs this season and then players with value and term next season.

Certain players I don't feel can be traded with either their contracts or trade protection. Those players are Huberdeau, Kadri, Markstrom and Coleman. Potentially Coleman and Markstrom could bring some value in their final years but decided not to bother with them right now.

The idea is to be bad, give young players opportunity and draft high end talent is hopes to turn it around in 3-5 years.

Some of the players acquired that I don't consider to be part of the long term plan are Peeke, Bean and Hague. They are just placeholders with team control until younger players are ready.

2024 NHL Entry Draft

#21 Adam Jecho

I dont see why the isles do this. Mangiapane is not worth a 1st. Wahlstrom has also been playing well when he is in.

I definitely wouldn't say that at all. Chabot isn't that good is his own end. Ottawa needs a more defensively responsible guy on the back end, Chabot is not that guy, Weegar fits that mold perfectly and he plays a premium position.

But Chabot is elite in transition and drives the offense a lot. That said Weegar is pretty good at everything and is a RHD so this is tempting.

However he's older and has term that brings him to 37 y/o

Brannstrom + 1st vs 2nd is my problem

If it is just Brannstrom + Chabot, I'd be more interested but not giving up the better pick and a good young D-man
