Makes more sense to accept the season is gone and not let Jarmo continue to dig the team a deeper hole with players that are going to be too old by the time the their younger players are ready for a real competitive window. I'd rather see Gaudreau, Laine, Werenski, Boone, Provorov, and Roslovic moved for whatever and an actual rebuild begin with Fantilli as the focus.

Jarmo has always been an all in type of guy. As a fellow hockey fan, I have always respected him for it. This core looks quite good with Hertl as well.

Don't mention Boones name too loudly though. Us Leafs fans will start circling hard at him again and you will only have yourself to blame for it! Hahaha :P

Meh. I said last year that if things looked like **** again this year then Boone should absolutely become available. I don't think Jarmo is the guy to make any more significant moves with the roster, but when a new GM comes in I'd be very open to Boone being traded along with the other vets I listed. At some point you just have to realize that everyone calling these guys bad are right and they have to be moved out to make room for the next attempt at building a competitive team.

I'd be in favor of this but don't think it would be enough for SJS. It would probably take Sillinger instead of Roslovic. Ros would bring a better return if traded to a contender at the deadline with retention.

This team is always too young to compete, but everyone is afraid of bringing in veteran players. You need good vets to win, and you need to win if you want to keep your young players. There is a surplus of youth right now and I think someone like Sillinger should be swapped for an upgrade at center ice.

Also, I don't think this necessarily saves the season and I'd rather have Lindholm than Hertl, but a move like this does set this team up better to win overall. While I'd love to see a resurgence this season, what I really like is how this deal improves roster makeup moving forward.

I think Hertl is a better fit in Washington who has a lot of cap space on LTIRetired, is trying to keep that cup window open, and who's big contracts expire soon.

CBJ has too many fresh big money deals that go long term, Laine's due a new deal in not that long, and the youngsters will all need deals too. This seems too risky for a 30 year old with 6.5 seasons left.
