Description
Not really CBJ fans I see panicking but the rest of the NHL's fans... Good Lord.

This teams main core(Gaudreau, Laine,Werenski, Jiricek, Fantilli) is 23.8 years old on average.

Include Johnson to that mix they're even younger.

On top of that they have loads of depth in the system. They're currently on a slide but they are still a really young team.

Just because they added guys this summer like Provorov/Severson does not mean they rushed a rebuild. They gave a cumlative 1st, 2nd, 3rd for guys that make up half of their top 4, and one is leading them in Points. Plus they still have all but one of their own picks in the next 3 years, and a top 3 prospect pool.

They have 20 mil in cap, and about 7.5m can be freed by moving on from Boqvist, Bean, Peeke, who don't seem essential too the future for CBJ atm.

----
I'm sure they'd like to be doing better but sky is not falling. Another top pick just gives them a chance them to add another potential star.

Jarmo essentially said Playoffs weren't main priority for the year, it was mostly growth, and with growth comes pains.
Trades

CBJ
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
CAR
  1. Roslovic, Jack ($2,000,000 retained)
2.
PHI
  1. Boqvist, Adam
Additional Details:
It's becoming more apparent these 2 players likely aren't apart of their teams long term future. Both have had ups and downs, but are very skilled on their own right.

Would be sad from a Flyers fan's POV to see Frost go, as I'm sure some BJ's fans would be for Boqvist.

For being the “most irrelevant team in the league,” fans of other teams sure are OBSESSED with clowning on Columbus.

To be fair, Minnesota and Calgary are still ahead of Columbus in that category.

it's insane! I've seen multiple people suggest trading Werenski, Laine, Gaudreau.... Like jesus people. Not trying to take shots I just don't understand it. They're the most misunderstood team in the league.

Some nice pieces but Laine is cancer, Johnny Was hockey, bad Gs and no strong core/leadership/system from years of trying to rush it

I'd that is your core then you got a whole bunch of overpaid long-term contracts around them.

I disagree on Laine, he was just lazy earlier in his career which has developed him a bad wrap. Now he's just injury prone it seems.

Gaudreau had 74 points last year. 115 The year before. Calling him a "was" is premature imo, From experience playing Hockey, it's all confidence. Blue Jackets haven't had a lot of that so far, that's what the individual bad starts stem from nothing to do with their skill.

I agree goalies have sucked. That's fixable, with the team improving/growing. Specifically in the middle 6. The goaltending can improve. Otherwise they have the space to add a goalie. Carry too expensive goalies isn't ideal but they could technically do it, if they're absolutely desperate.

I think their captains are fine, Coaching has been all over the place. I haven't loved Vincent's constant juggling of lines, I think what he says is pretty fair for the most part. He's known to have a good rep from players in the past. I'll need a little more for fair judgement.

Frost for Boqvist would be interesting. Not sure if its something either team would go for but intriguing all the same.

I think it makes sense, as both player probably has less value than the should. Not a lot of space for Boqvist on the back end in CBJ. Frost doesn't seem long for Philly from early signs of this year. Not totally sure CBJ could get draft pick they wanted for Boqvist currently. Same could be said for Frost unfortunately too me.

As a Flyers fan, it would be a little bittersweet for me as I like Frost a lot, but think this is a better route than others.

Don't think other fans are trying to clown on CBJ as much as they look at this team and see no real direction.

The core you listed out is a great example: Gaudreau was a big FA signing and is 30, already looking like he might have lost a step. Is the team on his timeline? Are they going to be good in the next 3 years? You could put Severson and Jenner in this same category. Werenski, Laine, and Provorov are all 25/26. Is the team being built around them? Are they really the 1LW/1D/2D of a cup contender? Results so far are I would say pretty generously mixed. Then you have Fantilli/Jiricek/Johnson. Are any of them going to take huge leaps? Fantilli and Jiricek are looking like very good bets but there's no such thing as a sure thing. Even if they do take steps, are they 1C/2C/1D leaps or 2C/2W/2D leaps -- there's a huge difference between the two? Is Merzlikins more of a Kuemper/Jarry/Markstrom or a Campbell/Petersen/Grubauer? Are guys like Marchenko/Chinakov/Boqvist going to top out as anything more than depth pieces?

Trust me I am the last one to suggest that if you're not a top 5 team you should be tearing everything down, but to do a "retool" right there needs to be some concrete sporting reason to do it. Are you the Caps or Pens and trying to wring out every last drop of two of the top 10 players of all time? Are you LA and selling everything except your franchise future HOF 1C and 1D? Are you NYR and know that your market can lure legit MVP contenders like Panarin and Fox? Are you Dallas and luck into a franchise 1W/1D/1G in the same draft?

Compound all of these more big-picture concerns with the fact that your two highest-paid forwards in Gaudreau and Laine look absolutely awful, the team sucks, and other teams theoretically in similar or further behind stages of their lifecycles (PHI, MTL, OTT, BUF, ANA) look somewhere between better than expected and legitimately good and I feel like it's completely understandable that people are somewhat panicking.
