New Yorks cap space is extremely tight. New York fans have been trying to unload cap for a while now.

Retain 2 mill on Trouba and Leafs at least consider this...

And yes, I'd love Trouba on the Leafs

IIRC Trouba's wife is studying to become a Doctor in the New York area so he won't waive his NTC right now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Plus with Fox still injured, Rangers can't really trade him right now.

His Full No Move expires this summer - It turns into - 2024-25: Player submits a 15 team no trade list; 2025-26: Player submits a 12 team no trade list

This trade is happening during the summer smile - Not during the season.

Stamkos likely doesn't accept a 2-year deal in Toronto, I think wherever he signs he''ll try to get that to be his last team, so perhaps a 1-year deal at first to see if he likes the fit or a 4-5 year deal right off the bat. It would be a terrible idea to replace Nylander with Stamkos just to bring in Trouba. Makes for a small window, depending on if/how fast Knies, Minten, and Cowan become game changers. More than likely this team starts heading downhill before Matthews takes off.

I don't think the Rangers would want to trade Trouba anyways considering they made him captain not too long ago. He still has a 15-team NTC as well, so there's a good chance that he could block the Leafs if they have the cap space open to acquire him. If he does get acquired though I think he'll take the whipping boy torch from Klingberg.

Trouba wanted out of Winnipeg because his girlfriend was going to med school which she is almost done with. So I seriously doubt he goes to a Canadian team.

Fair! He will have a 15 team no trade list, as of this summer. All Canadian teams could very well be on that list. Toronto is close to New York though, and the Leafs are a good team. So they may avoid the list based on that. Who knows!

They get cap space with a goodrow buy-out and all Canada teams are probably on his M-NTC

Only way Hawks make this deal is if it's before the June buyout window opens so the Hawks can just buy Reaves out.

Yeah I know. I rather buy out Goodrow if that comes to that in that case.

Fair enough! I understand them wanting to keep their captain in Trouba.

I am looking at their cap picture for next year, and it wasn't as bad as I thought!

Even for Trouba 1 for 1? trouba is a beast. His cap hit is just also enormous.

I wouldn’t simply because of the cap hit can sign lily to a 3x3M deal and he’s younger and more control just doesn’t make a lot of sense

And you basically traded Willy and lily for trouba because we can’t afford Willy if you trade lily for trouba and that’s not a fair deal at all Willy resigning should be the leafs top priority right now almost side by side of revamping the defence

NYR declines. Trouba has proven that he has one of the greatest assets in the NHL (fear). Players fear him, you know that if Trouba is on the ice you cannot be lazy or have your head down cause if you do you will get leveled. Trouba is also our captain and if we are not in a rebuild we will not move him. My guess is that Trouba stays in NY for a hot minute more. He is not worth his 8M contract, but he is worth 6-7 so at worst it is a 2M overpay at best a 1M.

This is exactly why I want Trouba! He messed up Matthews shoulder a few years ago, I know his power. But I understand why New York doesn't want to trade him. If they are looking for cap space in the summer, I could see this being possible, but still unlikely.
