Especially when we looking at Teams like EDM & TOR, I think it’s much better to have that $$$ invested in Defence

It’s a much faster game that caters to younger forwards anyways, so staying young and revolving forwards, while having the best D-Corp in the League who can also provide offence seems like the best way to go AFAIC

Yes, I think in general building from the net out has worked well for Boston, and they should keep doing it. But one has to strike a balance somewhere.

Look at My Calgary Flames for example lol. Their best players are their <$1mil/yr Rookies, not their over paid Stars

This probably wasn't your point, but I think this kind of exemplifies what I am thinking in terms of the last spot in Boston's top 4D. They could either go with an expensive known quantity and give up assets to get it (Hanafin), or they could roll the dice with Lohrei and keep more cap space free for the next ~6 years. Lohrei doesn't need to reach Hanafin's level for the move to pay off if they can use that salary to improve their scoring. With that said, Lohrei does need to improve his defensive game for the move to actually work out. I don't think the Bruins are in win-now mode, so I'd rather roll the dice.

Agreed. I just wonder if they’d prefer Hanifin (who’s very young for a Defensemen and has a very long career ahead of him yet) & Lindholm as their Top-LD’s over an what’s realistically an Unproven Prospect doing well on a Sting Team and Grz

If the answer to the above is yes, for sure I could see them finally securing Hanifin, which is something they’ve been rumoured to want for a very long time

My preference is they invest in two third liners and give Lohrei the chance to emerge opposition McAvoy. Hes got some decision making improvements that are needed, but the offensive talent is immense. The reality is they are in a position to add a very good top 6 forward in free agency as long as they manage their cap correctly

Hanifin essentially kills that. My hope is they trade a second round pick for someone like Anthony Duclair and keep their defenseman so they have a plug and play option in the playoffs if someone gets hurt.

Lindholm for the right price is the only player on Calgary who’s available who changes that math.

Nobody is paying a 3rd for Vladar. Considering what he is being paid, you are looking at a 5th for him. Maybe a fourth for a team that is desperate. That team very likely isn’t the Canes.

Iorio, McMichael, and that first round pick are all off the table. McMichael has been one of the best players for the caps so far this season and he’s still on his ELC and cost controlled. Iorio is their top young RHD coming up through Hershey. The caps could still fall off a cliff and that turns into a lottery pick.

Lapierre is the best young piece the Flames could get out of the caps in a Lindholm trade, but if Lapierre and a second isn’t enough, look at another destination for Lindholm and prepare to take back salary. The caps are one of the few teams that would be in on Lindholm and have the money for him. That being said, the best value offer probably comes from another team.
