Manson is not worth that much. Your getting fleeced by Anaheim.

Maybe, but have you seen the blue line after the trade?
Counting on Manson and Carrick to bailout Gardiner and Hainsey as a starting point before injuries... It's going to be a season of setbacks and growing pains

Yes, but I'd say Connor Brown alone is enough to bring in Manson. Have you seen him? The guy knows how to score goals. Maybe Brown and a 4th could convince Anaheim to make the move.

Awful trade. Aside from the fact that Anaheim is in just about as much a salary cap pickle as the Leafs (meaning they cannot take back JVR's salary without unloading a bad contract on us), the Leafs would not pay such a price for a good, young, but still very unproven defenseman (as far as top-4s go). If the Ducks want to make a deal, I think the Leafs offer Kasperi Kapanen, Nikita Soshnikov and their 2018 2nd round draft pick from SJS.

Although I think it too much to pay for Manson, the trade does have a purpose in shoring up the Leafs blue line. From a practical view though, I doubt if Anaheim can afford the cap hit without other moves.
Wouldn't the Leafs being better off, not signing Marleau, signing Markov to help on defence for two years and keeping JVR, Brown and the pick (just in hindsight)

OK I know it's a lot and it could be too much but we are the buyers, Ducks aren't looking to sell. Chances of Manson be traded are slim.
Here was my thinking FWIW:

There are VERY few young RHD that I feel fit the ideal top 4 player the Leafs need, someone who has top pair potential as
a shutdown guy, who has great shot suppression stats, big net presence and can lay down a big hit.
His fancy stats are top shelf. Here's a WOWY chart for the Ducks, Manson is #42.

I don't think the Ducks want to trade him at all, certainly not for JVR alone, due to the one year left on contract and their cap.
But JVR is a top 30 Left winger and they don't grow on trees and Ducks want more offense this year to make a serious run.
Now Nonis knows and really likes Connor Brown and after his first season, it puts him into an elite rookie category.
I don't want to give up Connor but the deal has to be good for both teams or it won't happen.
Not sure if a 2nd round pick is needed to clinch it but Leafs have two of them in 2018 and if I had to I would use that pick.

Ducks would definitely have a Cap issue to solve, but I don't think Kappy is seen as having enough value outside Toronto, at least yet. He might help get someone like Vatanen more easily but I believe the Ducks would resist anything that looks like a prospect for a proven top 4 young RHD. Sosh does not carry much value in a trade, imo, not for the Ducks.

If the Leafs could get Manson for Brown and a pick, I'd sign that right now. (And I love Brown). This whole trade is about getting a shutdown RHD into the top 4 to let Rielly and Gardiner do their thing.
They have wingers like Kapanen looking for a spot if Brown leaves.
