Fantastic question: I don’t really have an answer to that one.

I don’t think he has much value but I do also think we just keep him and use him as our 7th D because he has looked pretty good this year — probably more valuable to us as our 7th D than what he would return.

Curious to what the fellas think

For a guy of Vaakanainen's caliber you'd most often see a player swap if he were to get traded. Curtis Douglas for Conner Timmins or Denis Malgin for Dryden Hunt. That sort of thing. In those trades an org is generally trying to use a bit of extra depth at one position to add depth at a different spot. Or maybe shed salary. Or to avoid putting a guy on waivers.

Good reasons for the Ducks to trade Vaaks don't really exist. He's been good at what he is; a depth defenseman. The team needs that and he's on a good contract for it.

Trading Vaakanainen is basically exchanging one speculative asset for another. As my esteemed friends @GeneralLandro and @CHAR say, we'll probably just keep him because he looks like he'll turn out to be an entirely acceptable depth 6-7 guy.
