Any team taking on Campbell has to be okay not being competitive for at least a few years. If the Habs aren't a competitive playoff team within the next 2-3 years, they need to shake up the front office.

Similar can be said of Anderson which is why I don't think EDM considers such a trade.

Agreed, Edmonton shouldn't even be buyers right now, all prices will be set to gouge them. Let them start winning some, and be cautious buyers if they are positioned well enough at the deadline.

If the 2024 could be changed to 2025, I'd do this trade 100%.

Yeah but Anderson is just as useless Campbell so they cancel each other out.

Well, the retention does make this rough. Let's say both Campbell and Anderson play so dreadfully that both need to be bought out, that's two dead contracts on the Habs for the next 6 seasons. I think the Habs still lose long-term unless it's a top-5 pick.

Yeah they both have the same term but Anderson's cap hit is $500K more so it really does cancel out Campbell's contract. Anderson only has 1 more point than Campbell has wins.

Oh they both are hot garbage, but Anderson could be serviceable as a NHLer, unsure about Jack Campbell who has proven who he is for longer.

But this is where things get interesting. A Campbell that's so hot garbage that he's in the AHL counts as a 3.85mil cap inefficiency so that's actually the threshold you'd be using to compare Anderson to. He's either a 5.5mil 4th liner which is 1.65mil more cap space than just keeping Campbell in the AHL or he's in the AHL where he also costs 500k more than Campbell. Since his buyout is worse for EDM than Campbell's (unless their sole focus is optimising for ONLY next season), a buyout scenario is also worse for EDM. In essence, Anderson absolutely has to be an impactful player in the NHL for such a swap to make any kind of sense for EDM and I don't think the evidence suggests that's likely to happen.
