Sharks only have 1 retention spot left and not sure they make this deal. Blackwood numbers look bad but if you look at the underlying statistics he’s been really good for the sharks! Think they would rather keep him. But another 1st is tempting.

That's too much to pay for Duclair +Blackwood, and not nearly enough for Sanheim.

Had Sanheim been available on the block, they wouldn't accept that package even if you added the 1st. He's not available, so that offer is definitely not getting it done.

A late First and a cap dump is too much for a middle/top six winger and an extremely hot goaltender on a low AAV BOTH with retention?

It's not enough

The Leafs aren't looking to dump Samsonov, so you can keep him out of the equation but even if you include him he's not going to be a negative asset. Most teams have to send out the same money as they are bringing in.

The middle/top-six winger is on pace for 20 pts and the extremely hot goaltender has a .902, he's doing as hot as Hill did with SJ when he was traded for a 4th in the off-season. Montembault is probably available and he's doing better. Even if these two guys were in high demand they wouldn't fetch more than a late 1st combined unless maybe if Blackwood was in the Vezina race and Duclair was producing.

Max Domi went for a true cap dump in Khudobin + a 2nd and he had 49 points in 60 games.
Marc-Andre Fleury went for a conditional 2nd (only became a 1st if they made the CFs), he had a .908 and was the Vezina winner in the previous year. Lehner (.918) went for a 2nd.

Two (late) 2nds are worth less than a (late) 1st.

Hate to see lily go but I would do this and sharks don’t have the retention slots so get them to throw a 4th in there to pay someone else to retain
