The issue is the Lightning already already have the cap hits confirmed long term. Everything coming from the Leafs is short term. Marner could demand an increase on an already large contract. Domi and Timmons could also be just rentals. I don't think the Lightning agree to this deal, even though they're getting the best player in Marner. Leafs improve on D and toughness (needed), Lightning improve on offense (not really needed) and get worse on D.

Mostly correct while Marner is the best player is he the best value player? Sergachev locked up long term at 8.5 is a better value deal.

Agreed, additionally Marner has a full NMC, he's stated before he wants to stay with Matthews to try and bring a cup to Toronto. (Whether that is realistic or not is a different discussion! LOL)
