It does if you don't care about keeping nemec or Luke Hughes, or improving in goal

We have Mercer, Luke Hughes, and Schmid we need to pay. We are not crazy like Toronto that gives out 10 million dollar contracts like candy.

Because paying Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner of Middle of his prime John Tavares is giving out contracts like candy 🙄

It doesn't make sense to go out and handcuff yourself like the Leafs. You can see how well that has worked out for them in the past and it still shines bright with the weak spots they have now.

Assuming Dawson Mercer is going to sign a $3M contract and Nylander is getting less the. $11M AAV seems like a flawed assumption.

Mercer give a bridge deal of $7 million by 3 years and when the cap goes up, give him more.

Should trade Meier for Nylander, seems like the type of guy Treliving would be all over and they can likely make that work with the salary cap instead of potentially losing Nylander for nothing. Seems like Meier isn't a fit with New Jersey.

Marner is the only RFA winger in NHL history to get more than 10 million AAV. You gave him nearly 11 and didn't even get full term on it so now he's going to hit UFA, again a market setting deal on RFA matthews and didn't get full term

"Market setting"... Despite McDavid signing 12.5 mill or 16.67% of the cap the previous year...

And Marner had 90 points in his last year, Leafs had no leverage

Tkachuk had 100+ points before getting his 9.5 mill deal, and just 1 year of RFA control.

The leafs had 3 full years of RFA control

Kucherov had a 100 point season and 1 year of RFA control before signing his deal.

Rantanen had much better production the previous 2 years, and yet the Avs got him at 9.25 just a few weeks after marner signed his deal

But Matthews didn't "set the market", McDavid did...

McDavid exists in a different realm.

Florida has no state tax

And that's debatable in who was better...

You seem to be missing the point.

Comparable players, but marner got way more money and didn't get full term. at 6 years you shouldn't have went above 9.

So your logic is making the devils smaller and more soft congratz are making them have the same problems over and over again. Also Congratz on ruining Holtz once again by getting a winger.

Meier is two months into an 8-year contract. Nylander will be UFA. I cannot imagine any scenario that fits the two into a single trade.

Meier is hurt…but I don’t think anyone is saying he doesn’t fit.

He doesn't fit as a keeper on my fantasy team anymore lol, hasn't been good in New Jersey so far. The scenario would be a sign and trade regarding Nylander, and while yes Meier is just starting his 8 year contract oddly enough the 1st year is the only one without any trade protection.

You can't give trade protection to an RFA. Timo is still an RFA this year technically so they aren't allowed to put in trade protection. But I'd imagine that trade protection is 99% baked in with a handshake deal and it's a terrible look to future FAs if you move him
