Grzelcyk is only 5'9"?!

Upgrading to the 6'6" Zadorov will cost a lot more than a third round pick, especially as the Flames just get stuck with another late 20s UFA defensemen.

Calgary declines. This offer is pathetic.

Since when did Zadorov become an elite top 4 defensemen that requires huge return in assets? Good thing the real NHL doesn't follow some of these threads.

I know right, toss out the Zadorov for a 1st + other assets......good thing the Flames and Canucks are best friends and they didn't have to pay those prices and got him for a 3rd and 5th...

LMAO - I know right, second coming of Jesus aka Zadorov........best return was a 3rd and 5th.....I would say I didn't see that coming...but oh wait it was said in many threads he wasn't landing 1st rounds, top tier prospects etc.

Someone in Vancouver must've Murray Edwards a big pile of cash under the table to get him for so much less than he's worth.

Or perhaps he isn't worth as much as people in these threads think..... I mean the Flames only paid a 2022 3rd round pick for the player....so they got an extra 5th for a player who requested a trade and who is a UFA - all while playing less time due to a diminishing roll with the team.

I am in agreement with you holy hell.

a 2024 5th, and a 2026 3rd is not Zadorov. I guess the no retention was a big key point for the Flames. And perhaps he has been hurting the locker room?

They have all retention spots open still if they decide to full sell on Lindy, tanny, and Hanafin.

THe no retention was definitely the key. ANd they wanted to get rid of the negativity. The funny thing is the Canucks didn't lose anything in the deal. They used the CHI 5th they got for Beauvillier (who was moved to make the cap space) and the 3rd from TOR they got in the Schenn deal when they were just trying to attain assets.

It has to be Murray Edwards meddling and telling Conroy to move Zadorov ASAP for w/e he can get right away.

No retention probably does have a lot to do with it too. Edwards has always been cheap the Flames almost never go into LTIR but they did this year and he's probably not happy about that. Moving Z without retention or salary coming back means they can start accruing cap space now.

Yeah I think something internally caused this low return, with no retention. Hope he'll resign for a reasonable cap hit, even if he doesn't.. this is essentially a free rental.

Yep essentially got him for free.. a 3rd 3 years from now wont help either team for at least what? 6 years? Unless they hit a home run.
Hopefully this lackluster return now, if the Flames do decide to retool sell this year, the returns they'd get for Tanny and UFA company is awesome.

Not to mention any time a trade goes public, it hurts the return no matter what. That being said, his role was diminishing and rumours he wasn't fitting etc. Seeing as they only paid a 3rd round pick to get him 2 seasons ago and he is on his 5th team by the age of 28... perhaps there is more behind the closed doors than what we see. If he was that good to command 1st rounders, elite prospects and others, he likely wouldn't be traded or cap fodder so frequently.
