Is he really? A 25 year old, top pair defenseman, coming off a 64 point season on pace for 55 points in 24 games this season, signed 7 more year at 8.5 ? What's Marners next contract going to be 12.5+? I think so.

Agreed that Sergachev is a fine top pair Dman; but with Hedman able to do most of the heavy lifting he gets to roam offensively more. Marner on the other hand is a top 20ish scorer. Yes he is much more expensive, but he was third in Selke votes for best defensive forward as well. So that's why I think Marner would warrant Sergachev and more even without retention.

Not a chance TB is willing to pay Marner what he's going to want No chance they pay Marner 3+ million more than Kucherov maybe someone gives you the ask you want I guarantee it's not going to be TB.

Agreed; TBL is not the right for for this kind of trade due to the cap implications. But due to tax incentives in FL maybe Marner agrees to less to have a chance to win the cup?

He won't take a pay cut and he'd have to for TB to be able to afford him. TB is also very content with its next core group Sergy is a massive part of.
