so lazy

why would a rebuilding montreal wanmt a 35 year old defenseman?
monahan is worth a 1st, BY HIMSELF. EASILY

kova is a young, rhd, 26 year old. is large. is solid

you want too much from montreal.

try putting up some value.

Devils aren't giving up holtz for a superstar.

Monahan would be a 4th line winger in NJD, no interest there. Ship him to a team who doesn't have 5 better Centers.
Kovy I'd pay a 3rd for, same with Bogdan.

But devils aren't selling a dollar for 4 quarters

A guy with 3 points in his last 12 games, with an extensive injury history, and who hasn’t put up 30+ points in a season since 2019/20 is easily worth a 1st? Idk about that

Holtz is far more valuable than Monahan. Montreal would have to add in this deal, not NJ

They don't... Neither does New Jersey. He's a healthy scratch now, with two points in over twenty games, averaging less than 15 minutes and a 1.1M cap hit; there's no upside so, the Devils would unquestionably part ways with him if they like what comes in return for Holtz.

you want too much from montreal.

If anything, this would be a fleece from Kent Hughes. I don't know how you'd consider a second rounder, a rental, a B+ RD prospect and a reliable two-way RD for a TOP 20 FORWARD PROSPECT an overpayment... "try putting up some value." shows not only that you know nothing about hockey but you're ignorant to anything that isn't your own dumb thoughts. It's people like you that bring me literal shame when I tell others I'm a Canadiens fan.

Monahan can play PP, PK and 5-on-5. He doesn't have to slot in at C but has a superb face-off rate. The Devils would want a guy like that.

I think you're also undervaluing Konyushkov: 4 goals, 16 assists in 39 games in the KHL as a 20 year old.

I do agree though that perhaps the habs could add in a sweetener but, not a whole lot considering the impact Monahan could have on this team and Konyushkov's upside.

Monahan doesn't play on NJD's PP, and isn't particularly effective on MTL's considering how much time he gets
Monahan isn't a good Penalty Killer.
Monahan has gotten caved in 5v5

Holtz, Haula, Mercer, Meier, Mcleod, Nico, Bratt, Toffoli, Hughes, Palat all play above monahan. Making him a 4th line winger who plays occasional PK time when one of the main killers is in the box/maybe 20 seconds of pp time if the devils decide he can be their netfront guy on PP2

whats more impressive with Konyushkov is not his points total, his role as no. 1 D and his TOI is whats impressive

Horrible trades. Devils will not trade holtz, Their GM love him and he has been playing good. Can Kovy play LD? if so we can talk. There are better Dmen out there i would rather have.

With all due respect, if NJ indeed had 10 forwards playing better than Monahan, they wouldn't be where they are in the rankings... Monahan's biggest weakness this year has been the players he's played with.

That said, he his a rental, and Konyushkov, though intriguing, would join the NHL in 2026 at the earliest. I like Kovacevic, and he'd provide more bang for the bucks to NJ than Smith does.

Even then, I don't think that the above package would be enough to lure Fitzgerald. Replace Kovacevic and Konyushkov by Savard, then, maybe, if NJ are really in win-now mode, they could consider this. But Holtz' potential upside is probably too large at this point for NJ to trade him for spare parts.

A dman with a 16 game sample size in KHL hockey who may never come over, and even if he does won't be a meaningful asset for another 4+ years doesn't have much value to NJD

Monahan has a 41.8% xGoals share 5v5 (the only devils forwards lower than 46.7% are Willman, Tierney, and Nosek, all depth/scratch/ahl guys who were replacements for injury) and just 3 5v5 points in his last 20 games.

At C the devils have Hughes, Nico, Mercer, Haula, McLeod. All of whom I'd rather play over monahan.
At wing the devils have: Meier, Toffoli, Palat, Holtz, Bratt. All of whom I'd rather play over monahan.

The devils issues have been pretty simple and easy to see:
-Goaltending has been horrific
-Hamilton, Marino, and Siegs have been slightly worse this year than last
-Bahl has been absolutely unable to live up to the Graves role
-Brendan Smith when on defense was horrific. Probably the worst defenseman in hockey
-Due to a multitude of injuries over the season, for most of the year the devils 4th line was unplayable and consisting of 2 career AHLers.

Now, being basically healthy at F, there are no issues there. I'm more than happy with a Mcleod/Bastian/Lazar 4th line

On D:
Luke-Miller look great together so no brendan smith
Marino+Siegs appear to be picking up again.
Bahl I would still like replaced if a true top 4 quality LD presents itself
Again same with Nemec, if a quality option presents itself I'd like for him to slide another year.

At G:
Schmid has looked a lot better after his first few games (excluding when Lindy put him in net for a back to back for no reason)
Vanacek is still horrific and I'd like him replaced:

If you're selling any of
Matheson, Kovacevic, Allen 50% retained or Montembault at reasonable prices, let me know.

If you want Holtz the only real piece of interest that could get me to move him is Matheson 50% retained

Interesting (both your posts). Even 1:1 against Holtz without retention, I'd be reticent to let Matheson leave. Especially with the cap rising by 4M next year, his contract is an absolute bargain, and he provides much needed stability. I don't know Holtz well enough though... maybe he'd be worth it.

But I'd decline any trade involving multi-year retention if I were Hughes. Given that we already have Edmunson (this year) and Petry (this and next), I'd say that'd be handcuffing us vis à vis future trades

Matheson has struggled this year playing real tough minutes. I don’t think he’s a top pairing guy, but a top 4 guy. I’d say unretained he gets less than the Chychrun return based on age and lack of pedigree. With how I value holtz I wouldn’t move him 1 for 1 unretained. But with 6 mill retention holtz+conditional 1st is something I’d offer. Again none of your forwards are of any real interest. Goalies are, but certainly aren’t of the caliber to return anything close to holtz

Fair on the retention slots already used.

I think Holtz is going to be a perennial 30-40 goal guy tbh. Absolute cannon of a shot, and even now he’s scoring at a high rate (and NONE of it is coming on the PP)

500 players this year have 200+ 5v5 minutes. Only 10 score goals at a higher rate than Holtz

Why would a team draft an player ( which I remember well from the video of pre draft discussion) have been management favorite and traded around 6+ month after the event ?

Now after that when trading an asset you need to see the need of the other team and while I think that Monahan would fetch a first round and maybe an prospect B, he's not needed in NJ so is value would be under so not a good trade candidates for both team.

As for the goaltender with an extension just signed we can exclude Montembeault which is see as the futur/now #1.

I don't think Primeau have prove enough to justify something more then an third or second round pick and while he could still develop in an rebuilding team I don't think throwing him in an competitive team to make playoffs is the best idea.

Now the "perfect" candidate would be Allen, a bit pricey but not long contract, have injury history but have also performance history. Kent Hughes could retain on him but would also block all is retain available. He could be the guys trade to a team in need of depth in the net like NJ or Edm.

Primary for a 2nd or 3rd is wild. I’d be shocked at anything above a 5th before you lose him to waivers.

Again, based on recent comps, I’d say you’d be making out well if you got a 3rd for a 50% retained allen. You might make out better, or be able to do it without retention if he only had the 1 year, but that extra year is a killer on a older goalie

I know, I don't think Primeau would value much but that probably what Montreal management would try to get that why he's not been traded yet. The waiver is the reason why Montreal still have him up otherwise he would play premium minutes in AHL.

Robin Lehner at 1.1 million coming off a 3rd place vezina finish was traded for a 2nd+5th.
