This seems like an overpayment even though All of the players are under achievers so far

The Kings have shown they don't need a franchise goaltender to win hockey games. Talbot is a front runner for the Vezina right now. Not sure why the Kings would give up a huge haul like this when they're arguably the best team in the league without him.

Talbot and Saros tandem would be special. Getting a top 5 goalies at 2.5 million for the next 2 years is very valuable. Goalies are notoriously hot and cold so having two studs would put this team over the top. Talbot has only played 16 games this season lots of hockey left to play he’s also 36 years old with an injury history.

So it would seem the Kings just need a competent 1B goaltender, not a guy like Saros that should start 60+ games every season. I'd be interested in Kevin Lankinen, not Juuse Saros.

Look at what Tampa paid last deadline for Tanner jeanot a 3rd liner. A tandem of Copley and Talbot I wouldn’t have a ton of confidence in. Talbot is on a heater right now but surely he’s gonna come back down to earth he turns 37 in July

Hey man if you think Talbot can keep this up for 60 plus games and a long playoff run more power to you. I just don’t think he’s that good of a goalie. He’s been average his entire career and is very old for a goalie

I don't think he needs to keep it up for 60+ games. Like I said, I think the Kings should get a solid 1B goaltender that can play 30-35 games. There's a lot of options between "do nothing" and "trade a ton of assets for a top 5 goaltender in the league." Both would be equally bad decisions IMO.

If you put an average goalie behind a bad team, he's going to perform badly. If you put an average goalie behind an exceptional team, he will do exceptionally well. Ask Adin Hill.

If Nashville views Askorov as real deal...would be hard to pass this up
I would maybe ask to switch Copley and Bearclaw out to one waiver exempt prospect (Portillo? Simontaival?)
(I would also take with just Turcotte and pick)

He may be top-5...but Demko, Hill, Ingram, Swayman...there are a lot of guys

Also, remember how Talbot dropped off last year...

Nov-Dec....0.911
Jan-Feb......0.888
Mar-Apr.....0.851

Ride it while it lasts

Talbot also played for a garbage team last year. Save percentage is as much of a team stat as it is an individual stat.

He’s 36 years old he will fade as the season goes on. I’d bet good money in that

Even if that's true, the Kings have proven they can win behind an "average" goaltender. They don't need Saros. Why give up a 1st round pick and several top quality assets for something they don't need?

Make it a 3rd round pick for Kevin Lankinen at the deadline and I'd be very interested. I'd be willing to bump that to a 2nd if Nashville retains 50% and takes back Copley.

He played for the same team…so it’s not really the lower overall ratios vs this year, it’s the decline as season progressed. Has happened last two years.

But my point is that last season was Ottawa's fault, not his.

Two seasons ago with Minnesota, he was 13-0-3 in his final 16 starts with a 2.35 GAA and .917 SV%, so I'm not sure where you get that idea. That's better than his season stat line of 2.76 GAA and .911 SV%, so it would appear he played better as the season progressed.

He has twice recently been among NHL leaders mid-season and declined down stretch. Last year with Ottawa…and maybe in was 2020-21 with Minnesota.

You are saying he is the front runner for Vezina. I am urging caution as he has declined in past.

Saros is worth what other top goalies were worth:

Hasek <> 1st + Kozlov
MAF <> conditional 2nd
Schneider <> 1st

Definitely nothing remotely close to what you have proposed here.

My point was that the Kings don't need that level of goaltending help. If something happens to Talbot (an "average goaltender" as others have suggested), then they should do just fine trading for a capable 1B rental goaltender like Kevin Lankinen if Talbot's play does indeed fall off. No need to go all in on a guy like Saros (whose numbers aren't very good this season, btw).

Okay…I am not advocating for adding a goalie.

Just saying I would expect this sort of thing from Talbot

Q1: 0.930
Q2: 0.920
Q3: 0.915
Q4: 0.910

Mix in some Copley hot streaks and Kings will still be Jennings contender. But I would bet against a Vezina based on his track record.

I didn't mean to suggest that Talbot was going to ultimately win the Vezina trophy, just that his play so far this season has been among the best in league.

Bjornfoot cleared waivers,Copley is a cap dump. So the trade is essentially 1st and Turcotte for Saros. The second is for retention.
