Both teams decline.
Islanders are not willing to trade its young players and their first round draft pick.

Isles would absolutely trade their 1st round pick. Aho is a pending UFA and not needed with the Reilly claim/Bortuzzo trade. Wahlstrom could use a change of scenery. You could argue Vancouver’s POV for declining but there is nobody in this trade the Isles wouldn’t move in the right deal

Kuzmenko is under performing; dude had one (statistically improbable) good season on a generous contract; seems like an over pay imo but 🤷🏻

Do you believe the Islanders could get him for a lesser pick? I don’t view JGP as negatively value but dollars wise he would need to be included

Well I don’t see it happening though.
In my opinion.

Kuzmenko is nowhere near as good as his stats made him look last year. Unsustainable shooting percentage, slow boots, immature atttitude. Petterson pretty much feeding him net front gimmes all year. If the Isles make this trade, the GM gets fired soon after.

It’s such an overpay, you’d think Isles were putting together a package for Kaprizov.

Simon Holmstrom (2019) was the Islanders last first round pick. Lou has traded it every year since for players who stick around with the Islanders long term (Pageau, Palmieri/Zajac, Romanov Horvat). He is an 81 year old GM who believes in this core and does not give a **** about the future because quite frankly he might not be alive to see it. It’s the textbook definition of “not my problem” - I would bet my life the Islanders trade their 1st again.
