@dgibb10, would you take this?

NJD will offer you more for Pettersson retained.

For 2 years with retention

1st, 2nd, and either another 3rd or any prospect not named nemec, hughes, holtz, or casey. And you could probably convince me to go higher

This is no retention, less picks and upgrading Goalies with Cap coming back from Vanecek

if they sell Petty at the deadline they're selling Jake too.

Personally, I wouldn't resign Jake depending on the AAV/Term

Holtzy is so him so unfortunately no as much as I love Pettersson.

I think Holtz is gonna be a consistent 30-40 goal scorer in the not so distant future.

Maybe with a guy like Clarke instead of Holtz?

Clarke can skate as well but doesn’t have Holtz’s snipe. He is good around net. Gets it done mostly through shot volume.

Does dropping the pic change things?

I think with this lineup (Holtz on elc for another year) you could resign him without needing to adding an expensing UFA forward. Then you have a lot more flexibility in 2026 and can work around a higher cap hit with Jake.

It has me as tempted as I can possibly get. I’d really have to think about this one ngl.

Yeah i'm less worried about his AAV than his term. If he stays he's probably going to want to do like 7x8 or something in that realm. That would be a problem contract most like in the final 2-3 year when the pens are hopefully back from a rebuild and next to impossible to move at his cap hit and age at that time (not saying cup contender) but it'd just weigh things down.

If he does like 2-3 year deal i'm fine with it.

I love your optimism but I don't think that in 5 years pens will be on the tail end of a rebuild. Also anything can happen, Pens can trade him 3 years into the deal, he could retire early, I say sign him now, worry about his contract after 87, 71 and 58 are up in the rafters

I'm not necessarily saying that in 5 years they'll be at the tail end, just think they can possibly be interesting, assuming assets don't go out the door.
