Description

With deadline cap space, the Hawks should be able to do this with 0 retention from TOR.

They might need to sweeten that pot - I imagine it would have to be in the form of picks, as outside of those prospects, the Hawks cupboard is bare or untouchable.

If the Leafs are "out of it", I could see the Leafs doing the deal....and maybe even retaining. If the Leafs are in a playoff hunt, I think they would rather "go for it" and not make the trade despite the upcoming UFA status of JVR and Bozak.

Like the idea of both guys being UFA's after the season, but hesitant to part with first rounders at this point. I had a similar trade in mind, sending Hayden, Pokka, and a 2019 2nd for JVR... Putting Schmaltz at 3C, slotting Debrincat in at his natural RW position, and leaving everything else the same. Probably wishful thinking, but I hope by deadline time Debrincat is ready for the show, especially getting a shot with possession driving guys like Saader and Johnny.
