If Tree trades a 1st for Risto he should be fired immediately.

Devils give a top sniper prospect, take $5m in extra cap, and get worse as a team. Thanks but no thanks.

I have to agree; but it's not like Risto has been terrible in Philly either. Honestly I could see him being a very effective partner with Reilly.

But, if the Leafs are moving Robertson in that package (a move I am luke warm about, but see long term how it can work with Minten and Cowan in the fold), a 1st is unnecessary..... Risto has been good - but by no means great. Even with retention, I don't move the first.

I would argue you should look in the mirror with that statement.

What does this trade accomplish for the Devils? It gives them a marginal upgrade on Vanecek if at all, and an upcoming UFA in Brodie that's probably worth around a 3rd + 5th. The Devils give up a very good prospect in Holtz, that was a 7th overall pick just recently, and is getting close to 0.5PPG pace 50 games into his NHL career.

I also think you're paying next to nothing for Tanev. We'll see what he goes for at the trade deadline, but I'm pretty sure we'd see an equivalent of a 1st going back to the Flames.

Holtz is 25th in the NHL in 5v5 goals playing bottom 6 minutes. It takes a hefty price to get him and a lot of fans don't seem to understand that
