Another learning season

Created by: Joblow
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2023
Published: Dec. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know Barron is not worth 4,5millions next year, they bet on Barron and go long term. Expect to get the better value year 3-4-5-6.
Mtl took a bet that Bennett would land a higher return then the cost to acquire him. Same thing for Roslovic, he help them compete for the season but likely get trade at the deadline.

Kovy over Lindstrom

Monahan over Roslovic

Hutson will likely start in the NHL

Maybe sign a good free agent for the 2nd spot of the LW (my target will gonna be Stamkos)

Caufield - Dach - Slafkovsky
Stamkos - Suzuki - Bennet
Newhook - Monahan - Anderson
RHP/Ylonen - Evans - Gallagher

Guhle - Barron
Hutson - Savard
Xhekaj/Struble - Matheson

No, I belive it's a good offer.

I don't see teams paid for a player who never reach the 50-55 pts mark.

Harris is much more interesting to them then a late first round pick. Florida is trying to win now not in 4 years. Harris provide instant help. Olivier Bjorkstrand, Victor Arvidsson, are 2 similar situations both both had more term. I think the value is pin point out. Of course if Bennett would be ship at the deadline they would be looking for this king of return but Florida won’t be seller. And they need cap space. On top of all those players to extebd they have Vergeahe and Ekblad the subsequent years so Bennett unless he sign for ridiculous amoubt under is market value. Won’t be back in 2025 with Florida.

True points they even have trouble extending Montour and Reinhart next year

I am not there with you buddy. I just don’t think Mtl are ready to sign players yet. 2025-26 is the target in my opinion. If Monahan would sign a 2 years deal i would be ok to bring him back but anything longer then that i don’t go near that. I think that Hugues wouldn’t commit long term. He already been public that he will try to built with under 25 players. You can’t commit 4-5-6 years to a 30 years old guy’s when you aren’t even near the finish line.
Also for Kovacevic, he is obviously better then Lindstrom and for that the return is much greater. Also Lindstrom is more of a assurance policy here.
Lane Hutson might very well play another season in NCAA.
I am the biggest Hutson fan. I do believe he will be a impact players but like Adam Fox, he need to become a man. He need to get stronger and still need to polish is defensive play. He got better at positioning himself and using is sticl but it’s not there yet. Also with Matheson doiinh well, MTL isn’t in any rush.
Hutson also talk in a interview that he would like to play another season with is brother, and that Celibrini and Eiserman would want to team up to get that championship.

But 2024-25 will be completely different. Habs will be adding Helenius, Hutson and Reinbacher. Also Suzuki, Dach, Newhook, Caufield will be older and better. Now you can start to add a costly free agent. Defensively Guhle Barron, Xhekaj, Struble won’t be rookie. Non of them have a 100 games yet.

Also Forsling who is a workhorse for them. He is one of the most underrated defenseman in this league. Can see him getting under 6 millions. Lundell probably go on a bridge deal but still will be paid good money. If they decide to keep Reinhart, Montour and Forsling. In my opinion Verhaeghe is not goiing anywhere, is to valuable. That left Knight who value is probably at is lowest right now and Bennett. That is my process.

For Hutson, I belive Montreal will sign him during the last two weeks of this season. He is now at 165-170lbs (the same weight chart of Quinn Hughes), and he will likely grow up his muscular mass during the summer to maybe reach 175 -180 lbs.

About Stamkos, maximum three years deal, same thing with Monahan. No 5-7 years deal for a free agent.

Also, i'm one of them that Hughes should trade his 1st round pick for another U25 good player (and my targets are Zegras or Necas).

Like, our top 9 for the next season can be that if we make theses additions :

Caufield - Dach - Zegras
Stamkos - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Newhook - Monahan - Anderson

I wouldn’t be close minded to trade that 2024 first round pick. Depending on where we draft and on the player available. If One of Helenius, Eiserman, Celibrini, Lindstrom or Tij Iginla i don’t trade the pick. If MTL just like last year get stuck with a defenseman then i would trade the pick. I would go for Kent Johnson or Cole Perfetti. Not sure if Winnipeg would trade him but they have Lucius and Brad Lambert who are promising forward prospect. Don’t have much defensive notable prospects.

I don’t think Hugues and Gorton are in a rush. Especially with all that inexperience on the back hand. Unless Matheson is move this offseason MTL could benefit from having Hutson play another NCAA season. They can maximize Matheson value that way.

Montreal will not gonna finish in the top 5 for the next draft. I belive they really need another offensive playmaker. Even Zegras is ''bad'' defensively, I will likely give our 1st round pick (at minimum) for him because he already have a historical chemistry with Cole.

Mtl will keep head over water until after Christmas then they’ll start to lose more regularly. Mtl is a really bad team, there record doesn’t show so but that mainly because of their Goaltending. San Jose and Chicago should be 1-2 , after that MTL is right there. And MTL doesn’t need to finish in the top 5 to get one of the players i mentioned. One of then might very well be available at 7-8-9. There a lot of very good defenseman in this draft.
