Rangers would never trade him to a rival. But if I’m Igor, requesting a trade would be in the back of my mind

Unless he doesn’t care about no defense in front of him

Trade him now and let Garand start cooking as his replacement. We could get a haul for him. Plus I don't want to pay him 9m+ on his next deal anyways.

You can have Palat for him. Can't lose to Palat in the playoffs for the 4th time if he's on your team

I mean knock yourself out giving a 29 year old goalie 7 year contract for $9m+ I don’t recommend it

I really think extending him to a $9 mil deal would be a mistake for us. It limits the depth and we saw with Hank a great goalie alone isn’t enough to win a cup. I’d rather a better team and a slight downgrade in net. Wouldn’t mind a John Gibson if he were cheap and available, but at least someone like that.

Yea max I’m giving any goalie is maybe $7m. Rangers have the best goalie coach in the league, so I’m not worried

Can you guys really see a world where Igor is not brought back? Wow, that would be huge!

I mean if Igor is asking for a $9m+ contract, Drury has to be thinking about moving on. Rangers have never had trouble finding new goalies to step in (georgiev, Talbot, quick, Louie, etc.)

If he wants $9 plus I don’t think he’s worth it.

I feel like you guys are letting a small sample size of quick get overinflated. Shesterkin is the only thing that's made you an above average team the last 3 years

You’re also talking about a team that wasn’t playing defense those last 3 years lol. Under Lavi they’re actually playing defense which is why Quick and even Louie had good game(s)

I might be missing something, but the metrics say the rangers are once again league average in terms of preventing chances against, and the eye test doesn't disagree.

Yea because they’ve been inconsistent following Lavi’s system. The beginning of the year or even the LA kings game they just played are good examples of when they actually played defense

When they play defense, the goalies don’t have to do anything

I’m not even thinking about the current play. I’m more concerned with how the team is gonna look in 2 years from now. Cap won’t go up enough to resign everyone and fill out the roster with better talent and to retain the talent we have. I just don’t see how we can pay Igor an additional $3-5 mil and accomplish the goal above.

Yeah but you let Igor go and I don’t see a cup contender anymore. The Rangers cup chances have been and will be dependent on Igor dragging them there

Didn’t work for Vancouver with Luongo, Rangers with Lundqvist, Canadiens with Price, Predators with Rinne. A better overall team is more important in my opinion.
