I like the Canadians deal you likely don’t get the 5th back but I do believe he only goes for a second

Jakub Vrana is on waivers. It will be interesting to see if he lasts until Pittsburgh's spot, and then if the Penguins pick him up.

Not really a fan of moving our 2nd for a rental at this point. If we could get a guy with some team control, then maybe
I could be convinced into moving it.

Also, no thanks on Vrana. Give Puustinen the minutes. If we’re adding someone then I’d rather add a guy with some solid defensive play, and playoff intangibles in his game.

Habs have no reason to move Monahan for anything less than what they got for Chiarot, Toffoli or Lehkonen. Obviously this isn't close to that so Habs pass

He can be resigned, idk how much of a raise he gets but if hes looking at 3.5-4m with some term that can definitely work. That seem right to me, but i could be wrong still nearly 3/4th of the season to go.

0 chance we pick him up on waivers. Half his contract must be eaten before anyone is going to free St. Louis of their headache

Keep dreaming.

You are the one that wants him, he is the best available center on the market, he wants to stay in Montreal, he is a 4-5 mil center on a contract under 2 mil and under 1 mil if retained, he is on pace for 50 points, Habs have the cap room and need to keep him unless they get an offer they want, he is a good well liked vet precence in the locker room. Tell me what incentive do we have to move him for anything less than the price we set?!

Its a 1st for Monahan or they can go find someone much worse to trade for.

Look at what the return for Andrew Copp was, 1st, 2nd and 5th. They have about the same ppg.

The fact you already got a 1st for him, can lose him for nothing as a FA not saying hes not gonna get traded but i think a 1st is steep, maybe a conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st depending on # of games he plays and how far a team makes it into the playoffs. Also lindholm is definitely the best center, all signs point to him being available. But if he does wanna stay in Montreal then it is what it is and he doesn’t get moved and resigns there.

As of right now Lindholm isn't available cause the Flames are still in the playoff hunt (3 points back, however if they do fall back by the deadline and it's apparent that the Flames are gonna rebuild then yes he would be the best available center and that would push Monahan to 2nd best but that doesn't mean the price decreases cause teams that don't get Lindholm would automaticcaly turn to Monahan. I don't see the Habs accepting less than a 1st + 3rd or allowing teams to make the 1st conditional on games played, I think they would make the 3rd conditional on games played where if he doesn't play a minimum of 50% of the teams playoff games then the Habs don't get the 3rd but if he does and he has more than .75 ppg it upgrades to a 2nd

Even if they’re in a playoff spot, they’ve tried to resign all their guys expiring they’d be dumb not to trade them when they all seem to want to leave in FA. You could be right about monahan but I’m still thinking hes not worth a first. Time will tell, there are other centers that will be available, not on that cap hit grant you. I’d like to see him in Pittsburgh as a 3c especially because i think they can resign him but he might not want to resign who knows. Lots of question marks this season with trades should be exciting.

I didn't make this ACGM, so no, I am not the one that wants him. Would spend a 2nd at most and that would depend on how he's performing once the deadline rolled around. He had a hot start to the year, only 3 points in his last 13 games (2g 1a).

Just because someone in the past went for x amount (Copp) is not indicative of what Monahan will go for. Every season and scenario is different. You can use that as a base and teams can see that Copp worked pretty well for the rags, but they didn't make the cup. Copp also doesn't have the past that Monahan has, that factures into trade deals like it or not.

Plus if i'm a team sending it for the cup i'm taking Lindholm over Monahan every day of the week at center.

If the Flames are in a playoff spot it would be dumb to trade the guys that got them there and disrupt the chemistry of the team by brining in new players instead of using their UFA's as own rentals

I mean yeah but they’re not in a good spot to begin with. With people not wanting to come back and with that huby contract imo it be pretty dumb not to sell and kick start a rebuild/retool, but i can see a world where they dont. Again, time will tell.
