Possible Stamkos Trades VGK BOS WPG DET NYI NYR COL

Created by: TampaFan86
Team: 2023-24 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2023
Published: Dec. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The scenario would be if Tampa doesn't have a chance of making the playoffs by the TDL and Stamkos agrees to waive. We would tank for our top 10 protected pick back and try again next year with the new prospects

Team Interest vs Likelihood vs What I would want

1) Vegas Vegas Rangers

2) Isles Colorado Bruins

3) Bruins Winnipeg Winnipeg

4) Rangers Rangers Isles

5) Colorado Isles Vegas

6) Winnipeg Detroit Colorado

7) Detroit Bruins Detroit

Stamkos doesn't want to be in a big market so that went into the consideration for the "likelihood" of the trade along with some other factors like team competitiveness, being in the division, etc.

Rangers make that trade and suddenly have a RD hole. Doesn’t make sense to do it

How many times does a guy have to guarantee he isn't waving until people believe him. He's made the statement as recently as September after saying he was "disappointed with the negotiations"

Almost every single one is expecting far too much for a rental.

would you rather have a hole at 3RD or in your top 6?

how giroux got a 1st, 3rd and tippett and is worse than stamkos, I think the equivalent of 2 1sts is more than fair

That may be what you want, but the market appears to have changed. I can't see him getting much more than a late 1st and B prospect if moved. The typical rental return.

Don't see Detroit being buyers and considering we are the second best offense I don't think it's something we are going to spend major assets on. We need help with defensive play this year.

yeah I had detroit last on team interest, i just added them because of the connections and the fact that they had cap space.

last season tarasenko went for a 1st and 3rd and is way worse, Ryan o'reilly went for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Considering stamkos is over a point per game and is on pace for 40 goals I think the expectation for 2 1sts is very realistic

Btw the whole no division trade thing is fan legend JBB has made 38 trades as GM of TB 10 have involved a team in the division 1 on every 3.8 being there are 4 divisions matches up equally as it can

If he was cheap enough then I would love it, this isn't cheap enough. I think a Stammer trade is going to be very underwhelming if it happens. If they do decide to let him walk and want to try and trade him, the return night be closer to the Hall trade to Boston rather than the Giroux trade. It would all depend on how many teams on his list. If he has say 7 on his list like you have here probably get a good return, if it's 1 or 2 probably not very good.

oh i think JBB would for sure trade within the division, I just dont think stamkos would want to go to boston, rangers, islanders, etc given his history with them

Considering Stamkos gets half his production on PP and plays the same spot as Pastrnak he probably isn’t the best target for Boston.

bro hall was a 0.5ppg player on a 6 million dollar contract for the next 2.5 seasons and didnt have the playoff experience or leadership that giroux and stamkos bring, they arent even kinda comparable. I will agree though that if the list of teams that stamkos said he would waive to his like only 1 or 2 then the return would probably be pretty disapointing

Yeah but they need a 1C and the only other option I could see is lindholm who is quite a bit worse and would want a similar return to stamkos because he is younger and teams would want to resign him but Im not sure that would coincide with bostons future plans

Bro, he was a 0.5ppg player at the time in Buffalo. Don't know where you got that contract info from since he was a UFA. Everyone knew he had more to give than he showed on a poor Buffalo team and was basically a PPG player in Boston for the rest of the year. I was just making the comparison of a star player with NTC being able to control his destination with the return being affected by it.

no at the time he was traded he had 36pts in 61 games with the bruins and he still had 2 years of term left on his 6million AAV contract when he was traded to chicago. were you referring to the trade when he went from buffalo to boston?

Then what? Overpay his retirement contract, pass. Hole at future d & other holes, cause we'd had to more useful cap

the rangers went all in for rentals last season so I figured they might again as long as they are a contender

Buffalo to Boston, hence why I said the Hall trade to Boston.

Ask Jeff Carter. He's been saying the same thing ad nauseum yet he's the most traded player on CFACGM. 🙄

even if you take into account him being in buffalo he was no where near the player that stamkos is, the giroux trade is a way closer comparison even though stamkos would probably get more than him too

I just don't see Tampa trading Stamkos or Stamkos even waiving mid season.
