I agree with you.
If you take out Vancouver’s first round pick both trades would work, in my opinion.

it's extremely unlikely the sabres move mittelstadt in general, the package with the first probably wouldnt do it. Likely wouldn't get far without it.

Since Dec. 17 2022, here are the top 10 forwards in 5v5 points:

1. MacKinnon
2. Pasta
3. Point
4. McDavid
5. Rantanen
6. Stutzle
7. Kucherov
8. Marner
9. Pettersson
10. Mittelstadt

Yep, no doubt Mitts fits the 25 and under approach. Fat chance of acquiring him for that package.

Only reason Sabres did not hung up, is this 1st round pick. I doubt Sabres will move Mittelstadt, because it's more likely he will be resigned than Sabres trades him for future assets, while trading/signing someone for his roster spot.

What else would he get in return besides that?

How much money is that worth then? Would you be willing to pay him a deal representative of that production or is he not worth that?

I wonder if Buffalo will commit to him and thus a trade. If you think the return should be bigger, that means you'd also be talking about a $8M+ player.

What type of extension do you think he'll get? Short or Long term?

What type of extension do you think he'll get? Short or Long term? Probably over 5 years but less than Cozens or Thompson $7,000,000 AVV
The Sabres need to deal with a pleasent conundrum, how to keep all of the young talent in the system.
15 months ago most Sabre fans were posting Casey trades for a third, a few were trading him for a second some two, but no one valued him at a late first PLUS prospects.
How times have changed!
If Johansson was 21 instead of three months short of his 24th birthday, I could see the Sabres considering the trade to add a RHD to the prospect fold.
Over the past 6 drafts Buffalo has done exceptionally well with their 28 OA and later picks.
2018 Samuelsson 32nd
2019 Johnson 31st
2020 Peterka 34th
2021 Poltapov 33rd
2022 Kulich 28th
2023 Wahlberg 39th
The first three are all in the NHL getting significant ice time.
Only Potapov of the 2021 draft does not appear to have a sure path to the NHL, Buffalo has certainly received excellent value from their later round picks.
If Buffalo thought Kulich could step into the NHL before the end of the season, Casey could be an unfortunate cap casualty as it will be difficult to grant him a $6,000,000 contract.
Today, after only 30 games, management will not be trading their current #1 center.

.

Poltapov is getting minutes in KHL at young age. For him path is straightforward - KHL > NHL or frontline near Bachmut

He has like 74 points in the last 100 games. I still would like to move him, not for scraps though

Depends, if there's a first add a better prospect. Without a first and what I would prefer is a middle six 2 way center that's better in the circle and better in the dzone

First of all, who says we are trading him??

Secondly, if he is moved- IF,
it’ll likely be for someone that can help us now

Isles are far too deep on RW to trade for Garland.
