Reasonable proposal. I would not do this if I was the Leafs. Not worth it. You can get this caliper of player in free agency for free. The value of the trade is close. The timing is wrong. Tanev is too old and injury prone for what he would ask for on an extension. And Minten is to valuable to throw away on a trade that wont move the needle.

Agreed, though I'm not worried about Tanev's age or his injury history. He'd be a pure rental in a deal. But Cowan and Minten are both non starters in any deal for a defenseman. I'd be fine with parting with a first and a B prospect for the right defensive help though.

Not me. This Leafs team is more than 1 D man away from contention. Using any assets for a rental, or even a guy with term right now is meaningless. Get to the offseason. Make a splash on D then. See how things go through the next season, And if the team looks really competitive at that point, THEN you pull the trigger on the trade for the 2nd big D piece you need.

lol I totally disagree. The Leafs are AT LEAST 2 high end D men away from competing. Tanev doesnt turn this team into a threat to win a cup. Tanev and Weegar might. But just Tanev. No. Thats not enough. Leafs need Brodies contract to run out. Resign him on the cheap for the bottom pair. Then spend his and Klingbergs and Timmins $$$ combined and pick up two 5-6m$ d men. One for Rielly and one for McCabe. With Brodie and Liljegren on the bottom pair. That would be a championship caliper D corps.

It does? Based on what? Why didn't he pay for Zadorov? He had the assets. Why hasnt he made a move for anyone else? And when did we start talking about what WILL happen? Nobody said that? The trade machine is for proposals of what people WANT to see. Which is the conversation Im having. I dont want to see this. I didnt say it WOULDNT happen. Also, if you believe this to be an all in year, Why 1 year for Domi and Bertuzzi and Klingberg and Samsonov? Why no extension on Nylander? Seems like a person who is in "wait and see" / "tinkering" mode. Not a person who is all in on this group.

ha tree wanted zadorov and was willing to pay,the problem was the flames didnt want to retain this early in the season, the leafs couldnt take the whole contract.teams can only retain on 3 contracts, and for the flames to maximize returns on lindholm, hanifin and tanev its those 3,not zadorov, the canucks got him because they could take all of zadorovs salary.tree hasnt made a move yet because he has no cap space,at the deadline with retention he can shore things up.i get that you dont like the tanev deal, what im saying is if you think the leafs with there roster arent going all in this yr,your dreaming because they are.the 0ne yr for all those guys is now, again proving my point.nylander has been lighting it up so his value keeps rising,so its hard to extend.tree doesnt tinker, tkachuk and huberdeau,or lindolm and hamilton.anyways we have had our conversation ill talk to you after the deadline when tree has gave up more futures for right now mode.you leaf fans are a little crazy, but you and i are done for now.

So you would give up toronto 1st, but not minten for tanev with 50 percent retention? but as far as b level prospects go thats pretty much all the leafs have, other than cowan, and they dont move the needle.Tanev would definately resign in toronto, thats his home.for about the same money and 2 or 3 yrs term.Tanev is the perfect fit and tree knows it.
